I think if you look into a good Indian music store you will find something like I did on my last trip, a boxed set on Indian music appreciation. A whole course in itself, the fault for my modest understanding only lies in my limited capacity..

Last Year in March 2002 i did a wonderful trek in
uttaranchal for a week in Kedarnath Valley.We went as high as nearly
4000mtrs and even climbed a non techincal peak of Chandrashilla. From the
Chandrashilla Top we watched almost all the prominent peaks of the area including Nanda
Devi ( nearly 8000mtrs). I really have wonderful memories of this trekking
holiday.

In fact Indian embassies do have different rules. It can be possible to get another visa at Bkok . the Changmai consulate has reputation for more relaxed attitude.
