I know, but instead of making my trip from Marrakech to Fes a 7 hour train ride, I made it a 3 day desert tour via Merzouga, which I was talking about in my original post

Hi everybody

Next week we (family of four - two boys age 14 and 18 + parents) are going to Sumatra for 5 weeks. We will be landing in Medan, then travel to Bukit Lawang, west coast, Banyaks down to Padang and back home from there.
Apart from exploring and backpacking the boys want to do some surfing. They have done som surfing in Denmark and Marocco - their level a little bit better than 'beginner' I guess. We know that you kan surf on the islands of the west coast, but we think it is too expensive and we also want to go more 'laid back'. Do you know of any nice surfing on the mainland coast between Banyaks and Padang. I have been reading the forum for some month now and searching the internet - but no luck. Appreciate any info about good, laid back, surfing between Banyaks and Padang (like Krui I guess - but Krui is too far for this trip).

Best Regards
Gitte

Hi All

I will be doing an Intrepid tour in Morocco in winter and I will arrive a few days earlier before the tour starts and stay for a few days more after the tour ends. Since I will be on a round the world trip I will be carrying a big luggage which contains things that might be considered culturally inappropriate for Morocco so I am wondering whether this will be a problem? (condoms, douche pump).

Also i read that mingling with locals is frowned upon and might catch the eyes of the police. What is the truth in relation to this?

Lastly, are hotels strictly monitored like they are in Malaysia where the police does actually barge in if they suspect that 2 people are engaging in conduct which is considered not Islamic? Would renting an airbnb be a safer option ?

Hi - I am planning a travel to Morocco during mid-May. Read on some blogs that would be a bad time to travel to Morocco since the locals will be observing Ramadan and tour operators may not be available or maybe in scarce.

Anybody who has first hand experience please help. I am planning to do a couple of tours and am worried I wont be able to get to it because of the unavailability of tours.

Thanks for your help.

If you contact the camp, they will send someone to pick you up (at a price of course).

They will also arrange transport to Wadi Musa (for Petra)after your desert trip.

Then for Amman you can organize a taxi when you are in Wadi Musa,or just take the bus...

Day 1: Arrive at Morocco late at the evening
Day 2: Morocco
Day 3-4: 2 days tour to the desert

What's your opinion? Any suggestions where to stay to Morocco and Casablanca but also for a hammam would be appreciated.

Adding to the itinerary for our group of four. Enter Morocco at Tangier and using a private car for travel to Chefchauoen, Fes, followed by Marrakesh, over to Quarzazate, back to Agadir and depart Morocco. Thanks for your input.
