I am in the planning stages of a trip to SE Asia in November for about 1 month. Countries I would like to see are Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and maybe Vietnam.

For my itinerary I am thinking Bangkok & Chiang Mai then Luang Prabang, and Phnom Penh and Siem Riep. I would like to go to Vietnam too. I know in Vietnam there is Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City but I see that they are really far apart from each other. Could they both be fitted in my month of travel. I generally like to spend about 3-5 nights in any one place so that I am not moving around like crazy. If both are not doable what would be easier or better for me to do.

At this point I am thinking I will either fly in and out of Bangkok or fly into Bangkok and maybe fly home from either Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. Depends on what I end up doing. Any thoughts on this as well?

Hello,
Me and my friend are planning to travel to Myanmar end of February beginning March and have only about 8 days. Our main focus is to experience tribes around Keng Tung area . (is beginning March still high season?). Starting point is BKK and we would like to visit briefly Chiang Mai to see elephants and was thinking to get a plane to Keng Tung from there ( as I understand there is direct flight to KengTung right?). Beside that I would like to go to Bagan than Mandalay and fly back to BKK ( I originally wanted to do Inle but obviously don’t have enough time) . My questions are: is this sequence good ? I could also do it the other way around BKK to Mandalay than Bagan then Kengtung and then Chiang Mai – would that make more sense for some reason? what would be best way to travel from Keng Tung to Bagan …. Can I / should I fly- time vs money ?
Most importantly is 3 days a good stretch of time for KengTung? Guide or no guide there ? any tips ?

Thank you in advance for your help

Hi Mark and Ian-
Have you considered Laos? No beaches, but lots of wonderful country to explore and lovely people. We traveled to Luang Prabang, Phonsavan, for the ancient Plain of Jars , and Vang Vieng, where we did some fun cave explorations.
Happy travels!

This is a thread about coronavirus.

You would be better posting on a thread about Chiang Mai which is only a couple of posts down. It includes s useful link to an air quality pollution monitoring site. I don't know why you want to lose your time in the south of Cambodia, there are beautiful beaches only 200km from HCM , and the most of interrest are around the Tonle Sap , and coming from HCM , you can easily join Phnom Penh and turn around the Lake and stop in Kompong Chnang, Kompong Luong (Krakor ) , Battambang, Siem Reap, Kompong Thom , Kompong Cham, and Phnom Penh again, but from Kompong Cham you can go back in Vietnam again by the east , to join Traepeng Plong and the vietnamese border to Xa Mat. Very easy.

I don't know what about the moto , but I hope you have good informations to pass the borders with your engine, because if it's easy for a asian people , I don't know what about a foreigner..... CH

I do not see the reason to have a beach stay in Nha Trang and/or Muine, and then another one in Con Dao or Phu Quoc. I would go all the way up to PHONG NHA for its fabulous grottoes (fly Saigon-Dong Hoi + bu DH-Phong Nha ; stya at the charming Carambola river hotel - A-frame bungalows on river), then down Hue (3 days), then CAR with driver one superb day Hue-Lang Co Lagoon-Pass of the Clouds-Danang Cham Museum-Marble Mountain-Hoi An, 5-6 days HA (An Bong Beach + Cham Island not on week-end), then fly Danang-Saigon, 2 days Saigon, 1 day beautiful excursion Cao Dai temple of Thay Ninh + Cu Chi Tunnels, then 3 days Mekong delta Saigon-Cai Be-An Binh Island (stay at the excellent Nogoc Phuong Homestay)-Vinh long-Can Tho (night at the Thanh Thuy Hotel on Hai Ba Trung St)-morning Cai Rang Floating Market + bus Can Tho-RACH GIA (night) and then speed boat RG-Phu Quoc ; ,return Saigon by plane

Chiang mai has a few exchange places for Kyat, the best is SK exchange near the iron bridge. Just walk down Loi Kroh road until you're close to the bridge, it is on google map.

Grand total of 5 flights into Chiang Mai yesterday all from Bangkok which included 2 Bangkok Airways who have stated they are grounding their fleet on the 7th so swiftly coming to a halt.

And just been announced that anyone arriving in Chiang Mai from Bangkok or points south has to go into 14 day isolation in your own home if you have or at a location those that rule will decide on if you don't.

Be safe folks
