2807 results for Chiang Mai to Luang Prabang

Hey, looking at travelling on my own 5 nights Bangkok, 5 nights Chiang Mai, 5 nights Krabi and 4 nights Phuket! Ideas of places to stay ideally single room with own bathroom in each of these places that is safe and reasonable price! Roughly costs on transport such as trains, buses and boats? Close to sights?
Rough costs of tickets to the main attractions IE temples?
Also best Elephant Sanctuary that is ethical in Chiang Mai?
Thanks

The Chinese consulate in Luang Prabang issues visas, or also the embassy in Vientenne. I don't know what specific requirements they have. I do know that China will ask for a specific list of places in your travel plan.

Hi All,

Could someone with knowledge of Northern Thailand give some feedback on this itinerary. I'm wondering if it makes sense, if driving times are reasonable, and if we should goto Nam over Chang Rai, or we're missing out on any better alternative destinations?

Thanks!

*(p.s. I'm not interested in going to Pai, sorry!!!)

After 2 days in Bangkok. . .
1 Land in Chiang Mai
2 Chiang Mai
3 Chiang Mai (Daytrip to Doi Inthanon?)
4 CM (Cooking class)
5 CM Afternoon departure to Lapang
6 Lapang > Wat Chaloem Phra Kiat > Phayao
7 Phayao > Chiang Rai (or Nam??)
8 Day in Chiang Rai (or Nam??)
9 Return to Bangkok in AM
10 Bangkok
11 fly home

Google reference map here: https://goo.gl/maps/yXcEtxVLHU3SksW4A
Your journey will likely start at Chiang Mai Arcade bus station, and be aware of Prempracha Transport who offer buses and minivans to Mae Sariang, Pang Mapha, Pai: https://premprachatransports.com. Could be tricky going from Soppong / Pang Mapha (via Pai and Mae Malai) to Chiang Dao without going back to CM Arcade, and note: Chiang Mai buses to Chiang Dao go from Chang Peuak bus station not Arcade. North of Chiang Dao a good stop is Tha Ton with several guesthouses along the Kok river, a big Buddha statue/pagoda hill and can get a 4-hour slow boat to Chiang Rai.

Are places more central/north like Sukhothai effected by the smoke to the same level as Chiang Mai?

According to this website it backs up what I said

No, there is no direct bus from Khon Kaen to Mae Sai. However, there are services departing from Khon Kaen and arriving at Mae Sai via Chiang Rai. The journey, including transfers, takes approximately 15h 30m.

I feel quite happy with the route up to Siem Reap but I'm not sure how to best use the last 4 days before flying back. Do you guys think it would be efficient to have a couple of days on the beach? If it would involve too much travelling I thought it might be interesting to see Phnom Penh? Or alternatively I could extend stays in other areas, Chiang Rai for example.

I know more timw ould be ideal but unfortunately that is completely impossible.

Thanks for your help,

Tom

No, there is no dam between Nong Khiaw and Muang Ngoi Neua, we did not have to change the boat.

Then for the SE Asia part....I would not miss Bagan and Siem Reap (Angkor).

Bangkok,Chiang Mai,Luang Prabang,Hanoi too,on the first rank.

Phnom Penh for the recent Khmer Rouge history.Hue and Hoi An in Vietnam.Maybe Sukkothai and Ayutthaya in Thailand as well.

I've been looking at this direction for some time. You may have to play it by ear. I think if you get to Oudomxay (Muang Xai) in one day from DBP, you will be doing well. I think your new itinerary will work. I've looked or reverse (Luang Prabang to DBP) and haven't seen any direct buses. Maybe, you will be lucky. Many minibuses want to be full before they go.
