7846 results for planning a gap year

We are planning to drive down to San Ignacio and go see the whales the week of March 11th. We are planning on bring our own camping gear - any idea if we need to book anything in advance? Also, what the quality of the road is to the laguna. We have a Nissan Rogue, but it doesn't have 4WD.

Hey all,

In only 10 days from now, i will start on my first proper trip to Russia with my wife.
We will have three weeks and the plan is roughly like this:

17-20.7. Moscow
20-23. Driving to Kazan with stops in Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod and Yoshkar-Ola
23-25. Kazan
25-28. Driving back to Moscow via Ulyanovsk, Penza and Ryazan.

2-5. St. Petersburg, overnight train back
6-7. Overnight in Mosco
7. flight back home from Moscow

As you see, there is a bit of a gap, which is probably great. I am having the rental car 17.7.-1.8.
Any recommendations where to spend another night or where to detour a bit to see more?

We are interested in culture, very average Russian cities (like Penza or Ryazan) and also nature, but find the last hard to plan/schedule. Any recommendations?

Keep in mind that camping gas cookers tend to be very weak at high altitude. So if you plan on hiking above let´s say 4000 it takes ages to cook with them due to the low pressure. White gas / liquid fuel is the better choice in that case.

Hi,
I am a solo traveller, heading to Japan in March next year, and plan to book an Airbnb in central Kyoto 1st-6th April (Cherry Blossom time).
Accommodation is expensive during that time, and so would like to share a two bedroom apartment costs with another person.
I am an independent female - 63yrs, and like travelling alone, and also with others.
Hope to hear from you if interested
Cheers
Heather

Hi. My boyfriend and I are going to Vietnam late March/early April next year and wonder if the below itinerary looks doable. We're there for 15 days (including our entry and departure days):

Ho Chi Minh - 4 nights
Fly from Ho Chi Minh to Hoi An
Hoi An - 3 nights
Fly from Hoi An to Hanoi
Hanoi - 2 nights
Ha Long Bay - 1 night
Hanoi - back in Hanoi for 1 night
Ninh Binh - 2 nights
Hanoi - back in Hanoi for 1 night before departure

I also wonder if there are better ways to travel other than just by plane, but I've read some pretty horrendous reports on the trains and busses and we're past gap-year age where we're prepared to suffer unwholesome toilets and no sleep!

Any thoughts on the above welcome!

The network coverages vary so better to travel with some unlocked handsets (dual sim card phones are practical) and buy each country sim cards from the main telephone companies. Thus, they would be covered in nearly all the corners, definitely on the main highways, apart from few gaps where they possibly would not even go to. Internet, not even mobile connection is not exactly everywhere but covers the most frequented places.

I tried to look online but it seems impossible..
Does anyone have an idea?

Hello Thorn Treeers!

My buddy and I are heading out to LA on March 4th. We've rented a nice pick-up truck and will have a few days in the city (seeing Tim & Eric live on the 7th). Then we're out on the road for a few days until our flight back to Copenhagen on the 16th.

So far, we're looking at the following as points of stay:

4th MarchLA
5th LA
6th LA
7th LA
8th Palm Springs
9th Joshua Tree (an Airstream near the park entrance)

And the following is where the trip plan gets a little patchy

10th – Pioneer Town/elsewhere
11th – Somewhere near Mojave
12th – Somewhere near Mojave
13th – Death Valley/Tecopa?
14th – Death Valley/somewhere else?
15th – Sequoia
16th – flight home from LAX

We'd love some insights of cool towns to call home along the latter half of the stay. We're not crazy hikers, but that will be a big part of the trip. We're also foodies, culture types that love a good beer too. Our budget looks like it will all be blown in LA/Palm Springs, so more affordable spots would be great too. We'd also love to experience some eco-accommodation or camping a little along the way (though we aren't bringing gear on the trip with us).

We'd really appreciate the help!
