Its just a bit slow in Shan state, and perhaps in your hotel if others try to look at youtube. Buy a sim card, many Gbytes for just 5000 kyats.

Any suggestions how to get a working pre-paid sim card in Nepal without giving passport, picture, and fingerprint?
I'm very against registration and tracking of mobile phones. I'm happy to discuss (in detail lol!) why I think it's so wrong, but in this post I hope to just focus on the practical issue of how to deal while visiting Nepal for a while.
I saw the registration and fingerprinting mentioned in this Thorntree thread from 2016-17, but the posts were focused on the data and speed rather than the registration process.
In countries I've visited which have national sim card registration, it's usually easy to not participate in the registration. Sometimes shops have pre-activated cards, sometimes you have the option to opt out, sometimes you just enter random data to register a phone, etc.
In Nepal, what ideas would you suggest to get a pre-paid card which I can use normally - data, sms, top up with credit, etc - without registering it to my name, picture, and fingerprint?
Thanks.

Hi gardenia56
agree with the above that Skype is a good way to go.
I got a data only sim card in Vietnam which cost 200,000-00 Dong (AUD$13-00) and lasted 3 weeks. Cost 100,000-00 Dong to top up for another month.
Don't know about a sim for both Vietnam and Cambodia. In Cambodia I got a sim through Smart and Data only 21gb - 2 weeks for US$6-00.
Cheers,
Andrew

Thank you for your response, bunga02. I am not being met by a guide at the airport or even using one during the first few days of the trip. I don't want to continue to explain why I want a SIM card before I go to Uzbekistan, but I do. :)
So, if anyone can recommend a SIM card that I can purchase ahead of time (there are a few options on Amazon, for instance), please make a suggestion.
Thanks!

Google gives over 4 million hits for Travellers Sim cards. AIS starts at 160 baht. Sim cards at a 7/11 cost from 49 baht. You just need to top up with whatever you use most of. Should also be able to pick from available numbers.
There's a 2 and hand book shop on Soi Rambuttri but in my opinion, too much for a lot of their books. Were some stalls inside the wat at top of KSR that were selling books.
Credit or Debit Cards not available for this transaction. Please choose a different payment method.
I did a test purchase bar the payment. I was offered credit or debit card options, along with the netbanking for Indian banks; and alternatively the Amazon wallet.

Unless I want to spend a fortune, I understand that's it's not a good idea to use my British cellphone in Madagascar and I need to buy a SIM card. What's the best one to buy and does it depend where you're going to be staying on the island? We are going on a trip that includes Antananarivo, Antsirabe, Morondava, Fianarantsoa, Ranomafana and Ifaty.
Thanx
