There are scenic walks you can do on Ko Phangan with good views but very hot in April.

Hello!
I'm looking for organized National parks with tracks and camping area. Where can I find it in April-May?
Thanks.

Independent budget travellers travelling in Asia were paying prices set by the locals and often the prices such as food or accommodation couldn't be haggled. The prices may seem to have been cheap but reflected the economies of the countries at the time. Thus there was no exploitation.

I could therefore use the argument - that I deliberately did not - that developing-world staff on ships are much better off than if they stayed in their home countries.

I'm not sure your argument is on point ... Westerners paying almost nothing for a losmen and meals in Asia are just as indulgent as someone on a cruise ship, it seems to me.

They didn't pay nothing for a losmen or a bungalow they paid the going price. Why are they indulgent ? they paid a high enough price set by the owners that they could make living and in return for modest price they made do with spartan modest room or huts that in some cases had no electricity . If you are going to run the the argument that travellers are indulgent by paying prices reflecting the local economy you could say someone who pays high prices in Europe in line with economy there is being profligate.
The point was when travelling in Asia you took prices at their local context and didn't compare back to prices at home. And remember if there no shortage of locals wanting to build guesthouses , bungalows and losmen for the travellers and in fact to do everything possible to encourage them to come.
When the high spending tourists arrived the local economy and land prices were distorted , the small time operators were pushed out and places like Phuket and Ko Samui became what they are now. The other argument that the budget travellers paved the way for the main stream and upmarket tourists who came later is without validity. They would have come anyway.

Seems the purpose of going to Thailand is FMP and that means Koh Phangan.

Rainfall probably not much of an issue the main part of the rainy season is the first half of November. Chances are the weather at Ko Phangan right now would be good.

Travellers often end up staying longer than they planned in Kota Bahru

That's a quote from an old guide book. There don't seem to be so many travellers staying at Kota Bahru now. Its not the laid back town it once was and the traffic while not as bad as KL or Melaka and other towns is getting more irritating. Of the long time guesthouses only about Zeck guesthouse and KB backpackers remain. KB Backpackers is in newer location on a lane off Jalan Mahmood a few minutes further way from the centre. KB has air con dorm for 30 ringgit and has big bathrooms . Owner friendly and helpful. Zeck has dorm beds with fan for 15 ringgit and is also friendly place. Another guesthouse right next to it as well . But at both places now not many travellers staying there. Kota Bharu's days as travellers hanging out or meeting place seem to be over.
Of the old guesthouses Rainbow Guesthouse closed long time ago , the airport road it was on is now 2 lane highway. Johnty Guesthouse (described in old guide books as looking like a 60's crash pad) closed many years ago but one of the brothers who ran it started another guesthouse more in the centre but that's also gone and he is no longer involved in the guesthouse scene anymore. Yee Guesthouse also gone.

PERHENTIAN ISLANDS
It seems the cheapest accommodation on the islands is a 25 bed very basic dorm for 30 ringgit on Long Beach on the small island called Panorama Divers and apparently you are supposed to be a diver to stay there ! !. Not content with colonizing Long beach with dive shops scuba divers have their own accommodation !!!!! Long beach used to be a beautiful unspoiled alternative beach for budget travellers.
Rock Garden Bungalows at Long Beach is not the budget bungalows it used to be - the owner died and its been sold to new owners who have kept the name but its not a cheap place anymore. It seems Moonlight Bungalows at the other end has been taken over by a new hotel with a great big swimming pool. There is also a concrete walkway to D'lagoon beach from Long beach which is deteriorating. At Long beach there are also parties with alcohol involving both foreigners and Malaysians and police raids sometimes plus the ever present problems of waste. There are also still foreigners working for accommodation and food as ' volunteers' at restaurants and other tourist businesses at Long beach.

unfortunatly thats not wjat is reflected from the comments here ,,....rain rain rain everywhere ....

They were trying to explain to you there are different monsoons and the severity varies . Even if you went to Ko Samui or Ko Phangan in late November there is fair chance of weather would be sunny a fair part of the time. Although destructive weather has occurred during December time on Samui side Krabi is exaggerating how wet it generally is.

Hello guys. I'm going to Thailand for approx. 3 weeks in September and I'm looking for feedback on my "planned" itinerary, please!
3Sep-6Sep - Bangkok
6Sep - Early morning flight to Chiang Mai. Stay until 08Sep.
08Sep - Early morning flight to Krabi, stay in Railay until 11Sep
11Sep - Bus + Ferry to Koh Samui and straight Ferry to Koh Phangan (I will lose this day completely, right?). Stay in
Phangan until 14Sep.
14Sep Early ferry to Ko Tao. Stay until 19Sep.
19Sep Fly back to Bangkok and fly back home 21Sep.

What do you think? I guess I don't have to go back to Bangkok 2 days before my flight home. Should I be visiting some other places and cut some days off of the planned destinations? Note that none of these are booked yet (except the arrival and return home) as I want to keep my options open and avoid bad weather if needed.

Thank you very much!

now iam totally confused ,iam reading every where that the rainy season is over in november in thailand and some of u are saying it differently .

Its not so black and white that the rainy seasons starts and finishes at the same time every year. Keep in mind that islands such as Ko Chang and Ko Phangan are jungle islands indicating that it can rain any time of year.

My wife and I are traveling to Thailand in October for 2 weeks and a couple days. I am trying to plan around the rain a little by going north for a week then hitting the gulf islands for a week. I'm thinking Bangkok to Chiang Mai to Pai. Then fly from Chiang Mai to Ko Samet to Ko Phangan..

Does this sound reasonable? I'm having trouble
finding the best way from Ko Samet to Ko Phangan and back to Bangkok.

You can go to South China sea side to Ko Samui or Ko Phangan which has different monsoon time . Would suggest Ko Phangan . You could also visit the east Coast of Malaysia which has good weather at that time. Or instead of Bali you could try Sumatra which is somewhat cheaper and less touristy.
For north Thailand would be better to wait till about late October. July not peak but still can be drenching pelting rain on and off about every 40 mins or so . If unlucky there could be flooding.
