4002 results for desert tours treks, marrakech, fez, merzouga

Hello,
We are two interns and we've just finished our Uganda gorilla trekking tour - heading to Arusha tomorrow morning where we will be teaching at a local school.
We plan to do a 6 day tour in October starting Oct. 6. Anyone interested so that we can keep the price down? It might be cheaper if we get more to join.

We will be using the same tour operator - we already have everything planned out. Check out the tour, sign up directly for the Oct 6 Tour or comment here - I'll contact you. Here is our tour link for ideas - http://www.primatevacations.com/tanzania-safari-and-wildlife-tours.html

Let me know if you have any questions.
Liz

Can some describe a successful process of booking a gorilla trekking tour in Bwindi?
It seems the permits cost $1,500 per person, so I assume all safari's less then $1,500 are scams.

Of the other tours I've attempted to book, guides have either not gotten back to me or told me they can't make my tour dates work. The latter folks required I let them hold onto a $3,000 deposit while they enquired so I had to stop working with them after the first week of them not succeeding.

I will be going to…

Hi
I agree with#1 for the cheapest way but I'd like to add two more points: the first is maybe one week is a little more for exploring , you can visit other deserts in this week too unless you are totally interested in Dasht e Lut . and the second to explore desert in any region of the world you need to hire a tour guide.
Other deserts that I can recommend is Mesr Desert.
Anyway have a good trip in Iran

Thanks a lot everyone for all the recommendations. I just arrived to Marrakesh yesterday and so far has been really nice here.

Mclarjh, how dificult was the hike up to Jebel Toubkal? Is it possible to get a sense of what you experienced by just being there surrounded by mountains, or it's necessary to hike all the way up?

Kaptainsensible, Casablanca and Fes are on my way so will definitely try and visit that mausoleum and Merenid necropolis. Thanks for suggestions!

Timcullis, the video looks really nice. I can see how the place has similarities with Hampi. Even though it would be interesting to visit it, on this trip it is out of my route. Thanks regardless!

...... if the bus times work for you it's a good way to travel. However, from Fez to Merzouga it's an over-night bus departing at 20.30h. arriving at 06.30h. next morning, so not a lot to see given the short daylight in December.
To Marrakech the bus departs at 08.00h. arriving at 20.30h., a bit better, the main advantage using the bus is not having to drive yourself during the dark periods.

A private tour won't do much for the length of time on the road, in fact the Supratours coach will be safer and more comfortable than some of the glorified vans used by tour operators.

Keep in mind it will be cold in the Desert at night mid-winter.

In Grand Canyon, they deliver last minute permits at the backcountry office if you are willing to wait 1 or 2 days. Advance permits sell out within the first few hours when they become available.
You also have treks outside of national park, Grand Gulch and Paria Canyon are examples. For any trek, you have to check which permit is needed.

Yes i did tip the driver, he took me from Fes to Merzouga, Marrakesh with stops in between.I got extremely sick (first time ever in my 25 years of travelling) and he was wonderful, very concerned and tried his best to take care of me so for that I was thankful. I probably tipped way to much but in the end after feeling like I was going to die I didnt care. He was extremely grateful for the tip. I based my tip on Moroccotravelers reply on how much they make.

In response to many comments about trying to do too much, I've revised our approximately 2 week long trip to what you see below. Any thoughts/comments/tips welcome - I am particularly interested in the best way to get from Granada to Fes, and how (if possible) to best fit a day trip to Gibraltar in. I may be able to add a day or two in somewhere depending on the flights I get from Canada to to Seville and return.

I should also mention that we are not spending time in Seville as we have already done so and want to focus on new places. No disrespect meant to Seville - it's pretty incredible!

Current plans are below :

  • Fly into Seville from Canada then bus directly to Cordoba (stay 3 nights)
  • Day 1 & 2 = Cordoba
  • Day 3 = bus to Granada (stay 3 nights)
  • Day 4 & 5 = Granada
  • Day 6 = ??? to Fes (stay 3 nights)
  • Day 9 = Grand taxi to Marrakesh, stay 3 nights
  • Day 12 = Fly to Seville as transfer point and continue on home

TIA - R.

I'd be interested in details of the prepackaged desert tour you're taking. Can you tell me the name of the company, price etc?
Thanks
