I'm very flexible and happy to change the amount of time spent in these locations, and to also stay in hostels etc to save money. I have travelled solo before ....

You are aware that once you get to Sth East Asia there are not always hostels and that guesthouses are the main form of budget accommodation ? You would be better to split the opening post up and ask specific questions on the relevant country branches.

Hey all, I’m 23/m and was wondering how easy it is to meet people in hostels in South America, more specifically: Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia.

I’ve already travelled SEA for 3 months and found it pretty easy to meet people. However I have heard a few comments saying that it is somewhat more difficult in South America due to more people travelling as couples or in groups.

I’m happy to travel alone but meeting fellow travellers at hostels is something I would also like to do so I am not always isolated.

For those that have travelled these countries, I would really appreciate hearing your experiences about this, and if you think SA is a good place to travel solo.

Cheers!

Thanks for the insights. I've written them all day.
We're home in Mexico. Sold the truck and camper, the camper was 20 years old! Now have a van. Planning on heading north early May, catching the ferry in Bellingham, getting off in Wrangell, Petersburg and Juneau, then from Haines beginning our land journey in Alaska, taking a couple of months. Can't wait.

Does anyone else experience CBTs/DMOs being non-responsive to emails? Destination Jyrgalan has been ignoring my follow up questions in creating a customized trekking tour. I've emailed them a couple times after waiting a week or so for a reply and also hit them up on Whatsapp. They also own this guesthouse that I'm staying at, so it's even weirder that they wouldn't respond to one of their customers.

I'm probably just going to cancel my guesthouse reservation with them and trek somewhere else in Karakol. What a shame since I really wanted to trek in Jyrgalan. Unfortunately I'm reliant on hiring a guide since I'm a solo traveler. If anyone has recommendations on scenic 3D/2N hikes in Karakol, I'm open to hearing about them. Doing some research, but it's hard when 90% of the blogs about Karakol trekking are about Ala Kol Lake. Thank you!

Hello all!

I am a 17-year-old traveling solo who is looking to spend a few months (early April to early June 2019) in Paris. I am trying to find relatively inexpensive extended stay housing that allows minors to stay unaccompanied in the Paris area -- note that I have experience traveling alone internationally, and have been living on my own in China for the past few months. Might any of you have ideas or resources I can utilize for this pursuit?

Thanks much!
Marion

Safety is all relative.

But SE Asia, and Asia as a whole is very safe IMO, male or female. This should be least of your worries.

Most the popular places a tourist would go, and the backpacker trail, is like minded travelers and will be easy to hang out or travel with a new companion as well.

I only travel solo until I got married, and my wife also travelled solo before I met her, she is a petite Chinese and had traveled all of Asia and EU before I met her...

Relax..you will have a fine time...

Do you have to purchase mandatory insurance? Travelocity sold me a "no deductible full coverage" plan. On top of that, I have my credit card and my personal auto insurance. Is that not enough? Thanks!

Hello,
I have been in Germany since 2011, where I finished my studies and working as a Scientific assistant in a university. My project and visa (Fiktionsbescheinigung) ended in 31.12.2019. I needed two weeks to finish all the official things (de-registration, informing authorities etc) to leave for India on 15.01.2020.

Before the visa got over I called the responsible landrasamt for an extension for the 2 weeks where they informed me it would be fine for me to leave as I was not planing to apply for any other visa which would help to get any social service from Germany. Hence they asked me to send the flight ticket to confirm my departure. But as usual, I was held by the immigration and was asked to sign a form and took all my old residents permit and visas, where they said I would be contacted by the responsible authority.

After returning , I contacted the responsible landrasamt where they asked me to withdraw my last residence permit application which was dated 23.10.2018 citing that it was still open as from that time they just issued me Fiktionsbescheinigung (work permit) based on my short term contracts(though I have paid taxes and everything). I phoned with them where they said if I didn't withdraw the open application then I will have to pay a very heavy fine and there could be serious consequences.

It was a huge misunderstanding and I know, I should have been more careful with the process but my questions are:
1. how long does it take for them (immigration) to process the case and to inform me about the result?
2. Since I had to withdraw my application for residence permit from Oct 2018 , how they would see the duration of my overstay (a) till end my work visa (b) first two weeks of January where I did not work
3. would I able to apply for another work (PhD) visa in Germany in near future.

Please help, I am a bit worried, As I don't want to have criminal charges in EU region and want to solve the issue properly. thank you all for your help!!!!
