Anyway, my life, my money, my trips, my experience - I'll follow whatever list I like.

Sure. No argument with that.

However, you set out your objectives as:

I'm using the Travelers Century Club list - think it's currently at 325 countries 'and territories'. Visited all (but 6 EU countries), 30+ asian/pacific countries, 8 South American, 13 Caribbean, North Am, Canada, Mexico, 5 of central america - so you can get there without Africa. Currently planning a series of 5 two-month trips over the next 5 years to do all of Africa. Saving the most sketchy countries for last - i.e. middle east. Some places not sure can get to until / if things clear up (Yemen, Iraq, Afgh, Sudan, Ce. Af. Repub, Syria, Iran).. then of course are the nearly impossible ones - like BIOT - Diego Garcia etc.

That is simply country counting, so own the fact of it. First and foremost, you are looking at ticking off boxes and adding to your count, and the focus of your research is the logistics for doing so, rather than because you are motivated to seek rich cultural experiences or to explore the historical heritage of a place.

What cultural experiences did you seek on your most recent destinations, apart from witnessing violence? And how many days did you spend in each location? In your earlier post, you were dismissive of people who spend only two or three days anywhere.

Also, you have not yet explained why you have such an inaccurate perception of Iran and other destinations. A little research into the relevant culture and history, rather than flight availability, would have helped you to realise that.

I'm sure you have discovered the there is a trade-off between flexibility and cost.
YES, ask your air carrier what form of Proof Of Onward Travel (POOT) they will accept.
The issue for the airline with bus tickets is that they can't verify if it's a REAL fully paid booking.
Where can you book and pay for a bus ticket Bangkok to Siem Reap online?
Be sure to print your booking/ticket to show at check-in.

Hi,

We have booked a 2 week return trip to Johannesburg in late September. We have travelled to South Africa before and done much of the South as well as Kruger NP and Swaziland.

Current plan on this trip is to drive to Mozambique across the border at Komatipoort and spend 7-10 days diving, visiting the coast of Mozambique 4-7 for the drive and to visit places on the way.

Has anybody done this trip before? Any recommendations for South Africa on that route and also for Mozambique? Any tips on driving in Mozambique and the border crossing?

We are at the very early stages of planning but any help or recommendations at this stage would be appreciated.

Thanks

Steve

hi all, just cross posting my post from The Canada section of the forum for more exposure. Have a read and let me know if you can help me out with the questions asked, or any other information that could benefit.
Cheers,
Steve.

Hello,

I’m a long distance bike tourist currently cycling The America’s. I’m having to do the whole trip in stages, mainly because of the timing, weather and a trip I have to make home in June of this year to NZ.

Right now I’m riding the L.A. to Santiago, Chile section and I’m having a rest day In Popayan, Colombia so I thought I’d start doing some research.

My first question is related to actually getting myself, the Bicycle and all my gear up to Tuk to start the journey. I understand that I can fly to Inuvik (from Yellowknife I think) and that there are very expensive flights from Inuvik to Tuk.....is there a local transport service between these two towns like a bus that I could use? Is hitching a lift up to the top with locals an option....even though I’ll have my bike?
Any other suggestions?
I’ll be doing a massive long haul from NZ that will probably go Auckland, LA, Vancouver, Yellowknife, Inuvik....so I’ll be wrecked when I get there and probably in need of at least 48 hrs to get sorted and set up.... maybe longer....

I know there is accommodation in both Inuvik and Tuk and I’ll look to make bookings when I have some solid dates in place.

Water, Food and Re-Supply enroute:- Can I count on getting full supplies for my journey in Inuvik and Tuk? In particular food to cover myself for 5-6 days on the road. I’ll be camping as much as I can and obviously cooking my meals as I go. Just the basic staples to get me through that section and snacks etc.
I have read some blogs of folks riding the other way and they have had food resupplies sent from Dawson to Eagle Plains.....does anyone know if the same service is offered going in the opposite direction? Would be great to cut down on weight / food carried out of Inuvik :)
Is it possible to buy Camping Gas (Propane, Butane) in either Inuvik or Tuk - this will help determine the cooking system I’ll bring.
Water:- I’ll bring my water filter and Purification tabs, but are there rivers / streams along that route to resupply from? Is this water drinkable or does it need to be treated first?

Am I correct in assuming that food, water and shelter is available at Fort McPherson, Eagle Plains and then Dawson once I start riding south from Inuvik?

What can I expect in terms of cell phone coverage? Wifi availability?

Mosquitoes:- We have some serious bug action on the west coast of the South Island, NZ but I’ve read that in this region they are huge, plentiful and relentless!! I’ll bring a head net, be able to cover up my body and bring some heavy duty repellent, but are there any other helpful hints or tips you could offer?? I usually make a small, smoky fire if and when I can which also helps.

Bears:- What do I do about the bears.... may sound like a stupid question, but I’ve never dealt with this situation before. Please, apart from keeping all my food and smelly stuff seperate from my campsite, what else should I do....do I need to get bear spray. Do I bag all my food and smelly stuff, seal it and hang it from a tree?? What is the best advice here please?

Weather Conditons:- No, I’m not asking anyone to predict the weather :) but generally speaking what sort of weather extremes can I expect in the month of July? Can it drop to freezing at the top of the Highway and then get to the mid 20’s after Eagle Plains? I’ll definitely cover wet weathers, but wondering how cold nights can get, unexpected snow storms?? Just trying to cover all the bases in terms of a sleeping system and riding gear / kit!

Ok, I actually have lots of questions, but I think that is a good start.
I’ll do more online research today and read more blogs etc, but most seem to ride from Dawson to Inuvik or Tuk

I’ll post a similar question in the Bicycle section of this forum for more exposure.....along with other bike touring sites, but thought I’d start here first :)

Thanks very much if you can help me out.
Cheers.

Hundreds of Canadians do this every day. Thousands of Canadians live in China. In terms of "current issues" between two countries, even more Americans travel to China and live in China.

Hi, all. OP here. A few of you asked for an update... and, sadly, I don't have one. We did not end up in Mexico last summer for a variety of reasons, nor could I find a "summer camp" that we access without already being in country. Because we have friends who live in Puerto Rico, we're considering that for this summer.

I used to be the kind of traveler who felt totally comfortable showing up someplace--anyplace!-- and knew it would all work out. Then I had kids!

If anyone has any updates or new discoveries, I'd love to hear about them.

Onward.

Hi everyone, I'm travelling to Sth America in March and will start a Contiki tour in Peru on 9th March.
But I'm headed to Rio first from 4th-8th March to experience Carnival, hoping that there are some other solo travellers out there who would like to hang out in Rio?
I'm just a little bit nervous about being a 32 year old female solo traveller in Rio!
