Hi all,

This June-July I'll be doing the Trans Mongolian Railway, so far I've been able to book my Russian train tickets on the official Russian website. I wanted to ask if it's possible to book Mongolian train tickets without using an agency/middleman? Is there a website I can buy the train tickets from directly or no?

Also, could anyone tell me about the Naadam Festival? What can I expect? Will public transport, shops, tours etc be disrupted by celebrations?

TIA!

Millie

Hey Laszlo,
Tx for the prompt reply! OK..I'll do as u suggested. A follow-up question: other than the email I rec'd telling me that you replied, is there another way I'd have known? I was on the messages tab, logged in, and didn't see any indication. Tx again!

Could anyone please tell me please if it possible to do sightseeing ourselves on a budget?

I submitted the application for Australia's Working Holiday Visa. On the day I submitted it, I got an email labelled "IMMI Grant Notification". I couldn't believe it was granted to me so soon so I wanted to double check with other WHV'ers.

Is this the email that tells you you've been accepted or the email that tells you they're processing your application?

As a resident of Merida, for every person that has exclaimed to me "wow, I can't believe how many tourists there are here" I have had another tell me "wow, I can't believe how few tourists there are." My guess is the same occurs in Oaxaca. It all depends on your experiences and expectations.

I think I have answered all of these questions already in posts #7 and #9. The Dead Sea and Massada are near Jerusalem and should be visited as a day trip from there. Akko, Nazareth and Haifa are all possible to visit as day trips from Tel-Aviv but not all on the same day. What do you want to see in Haifa? If only the Bahai Gardens & Shrine it can be done on the same day as Akko. It is time to finalize your itinerary and work out the logistics! Post here for comment.

All interesting thoughts. What I would do once in Cuba is different from my actually getting there in the first place. If I’m actually able to get there, everything else falls in place with plan b, c, or whatever. Time will tell. :)

I'd recomend following this itinerary but cutting out the section going North. An easy way to add on Petra (especially if you are flying from Tel Aviv) is to just do a tour from Jerusalem. Abraham hostel offer it as a 1 day or 2 day tour and they use a female Jordanian guide who is absolutely brilliant!

Here's my suggested itinerary: https://www.theordinaryadventurer.com/travel/2-week-itinerary-israel/

Personally having spent a fair bit of time in both countries I'd just focus on doing Petra in Jordan and not worry about seeing anything else. Israel is better suited for a quick visit with lots to see and do.

Hope that helps! Happy to answer specific Qs :)

We can't tell you how much money you need until you tell us what your lifestyle is like, that is, what level of accommodation will want (how many stars?), will you eat at fancy tourist restaurants or street side taco stands, self guided or guided tours, rent a car or public transport, etc.

If it was me, I'd take at least 200 USD, but your lifestyle might be different than mine.
