I may have ten days off in early October and Costa Rica seemed like a great deal until I found out that it is rainy season right smack in the middle of when I wanted to go.

Can someone give me an idea if it is still worthwhile to go in October to Costa Rica or will we just rain away and be stuck on mud roads. My idea was to spend a few days in San Jose and then head to the beach for the rest of it. I don't mind some rain but how much and how long during each day does it rain?

Thanks!

I need some help from all you veteran travellers. I am looking for accomodation in San Jose, Quepos, and Monteverde. Since I have difficulty with stairs, I have been looking at hotels that have ground level entry and rooms. Price range, due to my difficulties, is no longer budget but hopefully in the middle range. I would like to be in the heart of either of those areas.

My other question is about getting from Costa Rica to Panama. There are four of us travelling together which is just great…

You really need to get a guide book to figure where you want to go and where to stay. I've been to Costa Rica 3 times and the Lonely Planet and Moon guides are my two favorites.

San Jose isn't that bad and if you have time, it's definitely worth an afternoon walking around the downtown area.

I've organized an anthropology adventure trip beginning July 17 and ending July 27. The trip costs $895 and includes pretty much everything but airfare (hostels/hotels, meals, transport, guides, etc.). We'll be visiting San Jose, Guayabo/Cartago, Arenal, Monteverde, Manuel Antonio Beach, and doing a homestay in Sarapiqui. Activities include white water rafting, canopy tour, cooking and dance classes, hiking and hotsprings soaking. If you'd like to join me please send me an email asap to LAW

Does anyone have recommendations for taking Spanish classes in Honduras or Costa Rica? I'm looking for intensive programs (at least 4 hours of class per day). I have a basic knowledge of Spanish, and I'm looking to improve my listening and speaking skills.

August is low season so you won't have to worry about "to populated".
To see the volcano you just have to get lucky, and in the rainy season (August), very lucky.
Monteverde is the "best idea" for the clod forest.
Costa Rica is not a great snorkeling destination- wherever you decide be very careful of rip-tides.
Montezuma has beautiful beaches and is close to the areas of Malpais & San Therese.
