I'm wondering if there is an elephant rescue or conservation center in Kumily/Thekkady area? It seems the ones I've found all allow riding and that's not the kind of elephant center we wish to visit. We were just in Laos where we visited a conservation center that treated the elephants well, with no riding them, only walking beside them or in front of them and also feeding them; they have their mahouts with them. They were all rescued elephants from work and tourism camps. Is there such a place in this area?
Thank you.

Hi all,

I will soon be returning to the Alor archipelago and will be visiting Solor, hopefully for about a week. There is no accommodation on the island so I'll be 'staying with locals', hopefully, unless someone knows something that I don't about a new homestay. So, has anyone climbed any of the peaks on Solor?
Any information or tips would be greatly appreciated as I can't find any information whatsoever.

Cheers

Hello everyone, I was refused a visitors visa reason base on this.

  • 2 A visa cannot be granted unless the relevant criteria specified in the Migration Act and the Migration Regulations are satisfied. In this case, I am not satisfied that clause 600.211 in Schedule 2 of the Migration Regulations is satisfied. This clause provides that: 600.211 The applicant genuinely intends to stay temporarily in Australia for the purpose for which the visa is granted, having regard to: (a) (b) (c) whether the applicant has complied substantially with the conditions to which the last substantive visa, or any subsequent bridging visa, held by the applicant was subject; and whether the applicant intends to comply with the conditions to which the Subclass 600 visa would be subject; and any other relevant matter. In assessing whether or not the applicant genuinely intends to stay temporarily in Australia, I have taken into account information provided in the application, the applicant's immigration history and compliance with previous visas. I have also taken into consideration any supporting documents as well as the applicant's personal circumstances, commitments, and incentive to return to their country of residence. My decision is based on the following factors You wish to travel to Australia for Tourism purposes. In your application form, you have not declared any friends, relatives or contacts in Australia. Whilst I have considered your travel itinerary for your visit, I note that you have presented a limited travel history. I therefore question as to why you would choose Australia as one of your first travel destinations given the longevity of the flight and that there are more desirable destinations closer to your home country. After considering the information provided, I am not satisfied that the applicant genuinely intends to stay temporarily in Australia for the purposes set out above. Therefore, I am not satisfied that the applicant meets the relevant criteria in clause 600.211 in Schedule 2 of the Migration Regulations. Decision As clause 600.211 is not satisfied, I find the criteria for the grant of a Visitor (Tourist) visa in the Tourist stream are not satisfied. Therefore, I refuse the application by the applicant for a Visitor (Tourist) visa in the Tourist stream.

My question is how do I demonstrate my travel history because I only have one country stamped on my passport?

Really hoping someone can give me advice for my trip to Croatia in August 2020! So many questions, so little knowledge :)

  1. Best way to get from Split to Tisno - Bus or Pre-booked Taxi?

  2. Best way to get from Tisno to Dubrovnik - Bus, Coach, Boat

  3. Does anyone know good company for day trip from Tisno to Plitvice lakes

  4. Can anyone recommend a good car hire company in Dubrovnik?

  5. Any must do National park walks/interesting sites off the grid? I'm basically driving from Dubrovnik to Montenegro to Skopje and back to Dubrovnik to drop car.

Thanks in advance

Hey guys,

Im new to the site and I hope to be able to contribute as much as I get from this forum. I have always wanted to travel but I never felt confident in myself nor felt that I could afford it during my 20s. I have only been to 6 US states, flown only once, and travel by car into Mexico fairly often. However I feel like I missed out alot by not traveling abroad. Especially (and I know this sounds petty) since my younger nephews and nieces have experienced it. Now im my 30s i have a good job, recently single, and have made a commitment to go travel and enjoy myself.

Mostly likely I will be traveling alone for 1-2 weeks trips. I am more organized than spontaneous and will probably have flight and accommodations taken care of ahead of time, with additional spending budget of about $1000-$1500. I plan to travel at least once a year but hopefully twice.

I have some places I want to go, Kyoto, Istanbul, Busan, Manilla, Venice... but I want to save them for when Im more comfortable and experience being outside what I know. Can you guys recommend a good starting point for me? A safe destination where, as a Mexican American, I wont struggle too much with foreign cities and local foods?

Also I only have partial use of my lungs due to cancer years back (im good now), so i can walk around a city no problem but I have trouble with long hikes.

Thanks

Eddie

Hey! I'm planning a solo trip to Puerto Rico March 3rd-11th. However, I'm having trouble figuring out transportation.
I'm flying in/out of San Juan. I really wanted to hike Cerro de Punta & head out the other way to El Yunque and Fajardo to the islands. Since I'm solo, its outside my budget to rent a car (and also just makes me nervous to drive alone). Also, should note I don't speak any Spanish beyond some basic duolingo.

I was wondering if anyone knows of any budget-friendly ways to get to/from these places?

Or, if anyone's going to be there on those dates, would you be interested in splitting a rental or something?

Hello !

I'm in Mexico city for business purposes, will be done on Friday 3pm and I'll have the reste of the day + weekend for myself, with the only constraint being that my return flight is from Mexico City Monday 1am.

I'm trying to plan my weekend and I have two main in mind :
1/ Pick a beach oriented spot (Playa del Carmen ? Puerto Vallarta ?), fly there on Friday and return Sunday around 7 or 8pm.
2/ Dedicate Saturday to a full-day hike and Sunday (Iztaccihuatl ?) to a history-related activity (Pyramids of Teotihuacan – City of the Gods ?) near Mexico City before heading back.

If there's a spot in Mexico where I can have both (beautiful hike + beaches), then that would be great too (I've done that in Portugal and Italy and it was very enjoyable).

At this time of the year, which option would rather pick ? In any case, please suggest a spot that you have in mind (beach/hike/other day trip).

Some informations about me to help you give me suggestions :
1/ This is my very first time in Mexico all-together so I have no ideas what are the must-see/must-do
2/ I don't speak Spanish but I have cellular network and can use google translate or similar along the way
3/ I can rent a car if necessary to complete a trip but I also don't mind using public transports
4/ I don't do 5-stars hotels / all-inclusive trips. So if I go with the beach option, I'd still like it to be a place where I can enjoy local food, company, do some explorations etc ...
Would be open to an all-inclusive if it won't isolate me from the rest.
5/ Male, 25yo, traveling alone.

Thanks everyone, looking really forward to reading and discussing your suggestions :)

I recently read that the tourism in Angkor wat is too much and is hurting the temple as it wasnt intended to have that much foot travel...

I guess it has to do with indirectly encouraging more hotels which drill into the water table and are slowing hurting the soil under the temple.

I want to go visit but this kind of made me feel guilty contributing to this kind of impact...

What do you guys think? not just on Angkor Wat but in cultural places as well, in regards to damage caused by tourism, and if I should feel bad about going to such places...

Thanks
