Gday all. Ive had a bit of a look through a few pages and noticed noones asked about safety.
I'm in australia, our government suggests a highish threat of violence/terrorism in tourist areas, is this just aussies being paranoid pricks or is it fairly unsafe right now?
I'm heading over to August full moon party, then stay on for 3 weeks, first time traveller and on my own, little concerned, has anyone had many dramas traveling thailand?
Cheers

Samui next week for a few days, probably chaweng. Due to the Full moon party is it likely to be difficult to find accommodation?

The FMP is on Phangan. It does not affect accomodation on Samui. Also, it is low season.
The FMP is only important to a tiny minority of the people travelling to Thailand, and outside of Hat Rin, doesn't warrant a second thought.
Koh Lanta. Nice beach, sunset, not too expensive.
You go girl! Disregard the superstitious crowd. Who would want to get out of bed early enough for a sunrise anyway!
Probably best ( from the problems I've read about ) to just say your vows and have a party in Thailand, and do the legal stuff at home.
Hi
I'm travelling to Thailand in May and want to visit some of the islands this trip.
I will have 2.5 weeks. I'm not really into the whole drug scene and the full moon party doesn't appeal to me.
Would you recommend Kho Samui/Kho Tao or Phuket or Krabi if you have to visit one which would it be?
Thanks
#317: I recall watching news of the May 1992 Thai coup on several TV channels, & seeing the Thai King demand both party heads appear before him. Both were on there knees before him, & the obvious body language was that the King was extremely displeased with both of them & the bloodshed that had just occurred. I also visited Thailand in December 1992. There were still bullet holes & scorch marks on buildings around the Democracy Monument & KSR.
Ko Phangan may be best choice. Main issue facing the island is rampant development rather than the party scene which is mainly centered at Hat Rin beach (full moon party)
for a chiller experience, rather than a crazy party atmosphere,
The question presupposes that the main problem on the Thai islands is the party scene. Most of the places you mention are quite developed and built up - that's something to keep in mind.
thanx for the information..
one more thing as i was checking online there are more parties in bangkok than pattaya....in pattaya there is hardly any party on 23,24,25 whereas there are lots in bangkok.....
Yes I have & love it hence why I would like to have a party there....I am also having a party on PHUKET....Ao Nang is a getaway for OS visitors beaches not important due to time of the year.
Ko PHANGAN = FMP island for party party nutters, Ko PHAYAM = Andaman side, grows cashew nuts, Ko CHANG (small) is next to it....oh so quiet....maybe off season now... take care.
