Thanks for your thoughts! With your help, I realized my itinerary was too rushed for me. I've decided on the one below instead. I'd like to make the trip from SR to Kampot in one day, so if you have advice on how to do that, I'd appreciate it. I'd also appreciate any recommendations for off the beaten track (guided, adventure/outdoorsy) activities in any of these places. I also haven't booked anything, so I'm still flexible. Thanks!

PP (2 nights)
SR (5 nights)
Kampot (5 nights) with plans to go to Kep, Rabbit Island
PP (1 night)

Thank you for your reply. When I say off the beaten path I'm really looking for entertainment, restaurants etc that are not so touristy. I'm from New York City and even though we have thousands of tourists there's many places to go that are tourist free so I was hoping that Barcelona would have similar neighborhoods that have more locals and tourists. I always like to try and get more of a local environment whenever possible I will be taking some day trips out of Barcelona that will allow me that as well. Thank you very much for the link on flamenco. I appreciate your reply

Either you pick a small off the beaten path city where it shuts down after the last call to prayer, or you choose a more lively city where there's nightlife.

I would prefer a more lively city. What I pointed is that I'm not taking the party scene into my considerations for choosing a city.

but love cities where you can go for a night walk and find lively activity...extremely busy and chaotic cities

Dear travellers,

My wife and I arrive tomorrow in Zadar, where we stay one week, then we go to Sibenik (one week) and Split (one week).

We don't have a car and we work online half of the day, having free only the weekends. I'd love to hear ideas of half day trips/activities (we are very much into beaches) that we could do. I know it's a very busy time in Croatia so any off the beaten places would be appreciated.

Any suggestions? Thanks for your time.

I've ridden a motorbike across Flores a few times now. Traffic is light and the main highway was in good condition when I was last there in Oct 17. You will be challenged by the 000s of bends and some very tight uphill and downhill hairpins. Watch out for rocks and gravel in the corners. Trucks like to run wide to maintain momentum. Thus they drag gravel from the shoulder on to the bitumen. Also watch out for pick ups transporting fish inland from Labuhanbajo. They travel very fast and overtake in dangerous situations. I believe there is a Homestay called Lena House in LBJ where you can hire scooters and drop them off in Maumere.

Title: Off The Beaten Track In Italy
Destinations covered: Castiglioncello, Italy. Europe.
Theme: Off the beaten track/path
Style: Mini travel guide

Synopsis: When thinking about Italy, it’s pretty common for major cities like Rome, Venice and Pisa to be mentioned. Pretty as these cities may be and rich in history they are, there are times when travellers want to get off the beaten track in Italy and avoid too many tourist traps. This post is all about the time I ventured south of Pisa and found myself in an Italian town where the locals barely spoke any English…

Hi guys, a friend and I are planning on travelling from california to canada/alaska. We'd like to convert a second hand van go all the way up and spend sometime skiing in the north, but most of all we want to step off the beaten paths, leave the van behind and live into the wild for two weeks (approx.), hunting, fishing etc, do you know if it's possible ? are there any organisations that offers such kind of trips ?

Thanks

Hi Travellers!

I know you heard it all before so thank you in advance for helping me in taking this decision.

I'm planning my first trip to SEA next December and i have 4 weeks available. I'm a solo female traveller and I'd like to avoid lots of Tourists, parties and resort and instead immerse my self in the more rural places, go off the beaten track, enjoy the beautiful nature, jungles and landscapes, visit temples, explore the culture, see the markets and fisher boats, see how the local lives, eat great food and relax a little on beaches altho is not essential.

my plan is to fly into Bangkok and go straight into Laos.

I would really love to visit both Laos and Cambodia but I'm not sure if 4 weeks is enough time?? I heard travelling around Laos can take some time if you want to see it properly and I don't want to rush my trip but I don't want to miss out on Angkor and other places in Cambodia neither..

what do you think is best i do, 4 weeks in Laos concentrating on the north and then heading south to the the 4000 island and leaving Cambodia for an other time? 3 weeks in Laos and 1 in Cambodia or 2 weeks and 2 weeks? I'm happy to take land transport to travel between countries or flight if is cheap! do you have any good routes and suggestions for that? I'm going to flight from Bangkok again for my return to London. happy to hear all your comments, experience and suggestions about those two countries! good routes and Itineraries are also welcome!

Thank you!

Ami
