There is no need to feel you must travel in a group. You will meet plenty of other solo travellers along the way, who may want to join you for a day trip, or a section of your trip. We also booked all of our buses in-country via the guesthouses we stayed at. Often in Myanmar, transport tickets don't open up for bookings until 3 days or so before departure anyway. But can't speak for every company or situation. Just book your onward transportation when you arrive at each accommodation and you shouldn't have any problem.
