Chiang Mai (city) and surrounding lowlands get down to around 10-12C coldest nights, but up on Doi Inthanon (2565m, highest point in Thailand) it can get down to zero with morning frost. Anything below 20C is considered deadly by Thai standards and already they are selling woolly hat/scarf/mitten sets at the night markets.

Yes, trains in Tokyo do stop early, even on weekends. On the plus side, Tokyo is a relatively safe place to walk around, even alone and late at night. Taxis are another option: until recently, Tokyo had the most expensive taxis in the world. Apparently the charge has just come down some...

In any case, yes as I believe I mentioned Shinjuku is my favourite big-cityish neighbourhood in Tokyo, and is th eplace I usually recommend to visitors: the station and area has a lot to offer, even just…

If you intend to start in Hoi An, you may visit Hue (both city with various tombs, citadel & countryside). On the way from Hoi An to Hue, you can stop at Lang Co at the foot of Hai Van Pass, it's a peaceful small town with beautiful beach, An Lap lagoon, fishing village....especially it's not touristy.
For an island, I'd like to suggest Ly Son and Quy Nhon. Personally I prefer Quy Nhon because it's less crowded than Ly Son based on my own experience. I've been to both big and small islands of Ly…

The trailhead from Kee Beach to the Kalalau Trail is about 6 miles from Hanalei which has several lodging choices and markets and restaurants. Princeville, three miles further away, is another area with hotels and condominiums. I've stayed at the Pali Ke Kua which has excellent views of the "Bali Hai" coast across Hanalei Bay. Assuming you will have a car rental (practically mandatory for Kauai) It won't really matter where you stay as it's about a 20-minute drive from Hanalei to Kee Beach…

Also, Frommers recommends these places...should I be including any of them instead of the original recommendations of my zhuhai friend?

two days: Kunming

spend your first day in the city acclimatizing.
The following day take the train to the Stone Forest, or, visit the quieter Black Pine Stone Forest, which predates the Stone Forest by about 2 million years. Take plenty of supplies in case you decide not to emerge for lunch.

two days: Dali

grab the earliest bus possible instead and spend…

IMHO 2 nights is not enough to discover Hanoi fully 'coz it's an amazing city but still ok. You may consider:
- Halong Bay: 2days1night or 3 days2nights. I did 3day-2night trip to Halong last May, it was great, a lot of time to relax, do kayaking, sightseeing but not really an ideal place to do swimming.
- For a great beach: I'd like to recommend Lang Co beach, on the way from Hue to Hoi An (at the foot of Hai Van Pass). Can't forget it. White sand, tranquil beach and extremely friendly local…

Pai in Thailand's far north is a boutique village that has found fame in recent years thanks to a couple of movies that featured the local area. We wondered if it was still worth a look or had Pai sold out? Turns out, there's a lot more to do than just cake and coffee shops.

Hello! Looking for some help building my itinerary. I have just moved to Chiang Mai for a semester abroad and am trying to plan out my fall break plans. My travel dates can be October 17-28, but I would like to try to do this trip in 10 days. This is the idea I am playing with right now:
Day 1: Fly from Chiang Mai to Hat Yai on an early flight then take a bus to the train station then arrange for a mini-bus to Pak Bara then catch the speed boat to Koh Lipe
Days 2-4: Spend time on Koh Lipe
Day…
