i been to au thong nai pan noi beach 3 times, the last being 2004. we stayed then at the panviman and the beach was changing rapdly.
where the santhiya resort is was just trees so it is quite recent. any reviews are appreciaited. can you easily get back to the village/main part of the beach as i remember there were some really nice places to eat?
i assume ao thong beach still a great beach to relax and be away from hat rin?
as we can't get toao thong on the first day then we will stay on…

Minimum term for most rentals is 6 months. Shorter term places ARE available but they are generally upmarket and usually attract premium rents so it's not a way to save money, if that's what you're about.
Backpack for me! I feel it's important to have my hands free and it's less hassle when you are walking along the beach looking for a room -:)
Correction, "Anyway, as a solo traveller I would of started by taking the night train from Chang Mai to save on a room, but if you are 3, so I guess it's not a big save. But as #4 pointed out... arriving so late is a bad idea if you don't intend to stay. In the end I'm not sure how much time or BAHT you really save!"
