What I said was that at peak times Hoi An resembles Disneyland, and I will stick to that.

Hi:
It seems that all the forums on this topic are around ten years old! I want to book 5 different flights: 1 from Siem Reap to HCMC and the rest within Vietnam. I don't know whether it is safer to book all flights through a trustworthy travel agent or book with Vietnam Airlines directly. Any advice? Thank you!

I think you should go both for your trip to Ninh Binh.
Van long, another famous ecotourism area not inferior to Trang An in Ninh Binh is Van Long wetland. The wild beauty is still very clear here, which has attracted tourists to admire the unique natural ecosystems of Van Long lagoon. Follow the small leaf boat, around you is a vast swamp of water, birds, trailers and limestone mountains.

Disneyland ? You must mix with Baba the ridiculous Banan Hills !!! Hoi An si one of the most charming towns in the world, full of beautiful historic places (Japanese Bridge, temples, pagodas and ancient houses, Marble Mountain, the Cham ruins of My Son, etc. etc etc. Why Danang is less touristy ? Not much to see and appalling beaches lined with huge resort hotels existing or under construction as well as empty lots waiting for construction... and no tress on the beaches, too much wind !. Yes, Hoi An is touristy, but in the Historic Center only ; if you walk 300 m away from it in all directions, there are very few tourists. Besides, if we follow you, you do not go ta Halong Bay, Tam Coc, the temples of Angkor, Mount St Michel and the chateaux of the Loire Valley in France, Venice, Florence and San Gimignano in Italy etc etc, when all those places are stunning !

You don't say what you are interested in. That would help with our suggestions.
I loved the Ninh Binh area but two full days there is enough.
I'm not sure if mid April is busy for tourists or not but Hoi An is very touristy and I'd limit it to 2 nights unless completely off season or you enjoy Disneyland.
You could also visit Dalat or a beach, depending on your interests.
First off seasons greeting to all and may the new year bring great travels.
Below is my itinerary for a 25-night tour of Vietnam this coming mid April.
My wife and I are very active and experienced travelers in our 60s. For this trip we think we are on the slow end ie more nights per stop than usual. As you can see we have omitted Sapa as we spend many weeks a year hiking elsewhere and would rather not commit to 2 big travel days to this destination.
Your thoughts as to the duration planned in each spot would be appreciated. For example is 3 nights too much for Tam Coc area? Should we have 4 full days in Hanoi instead?HCM 2d/3n
Mekong D 3n
Hoi AN 3 n
Hue 3n
Phong Nha 3n
Tam Coc 3n
Bai Tu Long cruise 3d/2n
Hanoi 3d/4n
Thank you again.
Xin chào,
As I see you might not put the travel time in between, probably you are planning for the whole month in Vietnam. If so, the places are most selected for experiences the whole country well.
The concern about Tam Coc is reasonable because you spend most of time in public activities which can be done easily in 2days 1 night. Saving more time either in Hanoi or Hoian would be highly recommended. They are both great for local food and small activities, but I would vote for Hoi An if you love more relaxing and less traffic jam and I would vote for Hanoi if you want a bit of Vietnamese deep-culture style.
I am from Phong Nha with many caves and hiking trips to the hidden caves and jungles. I would vote for Phong Nha with a combination of hiking and a relaxing day kayaking on the river plus biking around the villages of Central Vietnam. It would be different from anywhere else in the country.
Wish you a great time.
