Read this first.... Thailand at the top if the page gives new posters some idea of does and donts. It means they don't come with a blank canvas ready to be filled in by others.
There's been a lot of posts lately by first time and solo travellers. Start reading, make notes and cross reference on the internet. And that guide book you buy or borrow from your local library.

Many thanks in advance. I had previously posted in this thread asking for advice and got some great feedback. I was originally going for 7 days and with a partner but now it has become a solo trip and I've extended it by 2 days.

I guess my question is, any tips for travelling alone and any tips for travelling solo as a female in Japan?

It's kind of a long story but I bought a nonrefundable roundtrip ticket from Toronto, Canada -> Seoul for $655 which was a steal. My original trip was supposed to start with 6 nights in Seoul. I'm removing Seoul as a destination and thinking of buying a one way flight from Seoul to Osaka for same morning I arrive in Seoul. (probably Osaka?)

Is 9 days enough to see Miyajima Island, Hiroshima, Kyoto and Tokyo? How many days would you recommended per location and in which order should I consider travelling to these destinations?

Lastly, do you think those POD capsule hotels are a good idea for a solo traveller?

Also any protips for travelling alone in Japan? Phrases to learn, things to bring, what to watch out for.

Thank you!

Title: Yes, You Can (and Should) Travel to Palestine

Destinations covered: West Bank, Palestine

Theme: Non-conventional travel as a solo female/ Breaking stereotypes that label the region as "dangerous"

Style: Inspiration

Synopsis: Unfortunately, for the most part, the only time that we really hear about Palestine in the media is when there is a report of a clash or conflict of sorts. The story follows a solo female traveller (me!) crossing the intimidating 25 foot concrete separation wall into the West Bank, encountering kindness and seeing a whole other side of Palestine that the media doesn't always portray.

Hi travelbugsamui!
Uber is very cheap in Nairobi if you want to use it - I am also a solo female traveller and spend a lot of time in Nairobi (I just got back from there yesterday) and use it all the time. Best not to use it at night unless you're with friends, but I had no problems at all during the day. However I also have a couple of drivers, so please feel free to message me if you would like their contacts.

Hello all thank you for replying and giving me more insight! More information, I booked my plane tickets and accommodation back in 2018 and just decided to help out a month ago because my flight was moved earlier by the airline so I have 2 extra weeks to spare in Athens before my pre booked flight to my next destination, Santorini for my vacation and I decided I wanted to help out during my extra days rather than rebook anything for more fees.

During the call yesterday they were asking me to move my flight back to April 25 and if I do that won't be able to help out in any way and will also spend more extra fees. My main purpose for the whole visit is Tourism as from my days in Athens I go to Santorini, Mykonos, Prague and fly out of Turkey with Mum when she arrives on the 25th everything stated and confirmed on the Itinerary.

There’s no program fee or specific program as it is not a registered NGO and just a grassroots organisation, no free food or accommodation as well. There's no daily schedule that I'm obliged to follow so it's literally a group of young artists serving food to homeless people and anyone can help anytime. Anyone can come and go if they decided to hop on a plane to Rhode or Crete they're free to go but since I stated on my itinerary "volunteer" so I guess that's where I went wrong and they think this is a work of remuneration?

I will be staying in my own accommodation so I believe I still classify as a tourist I'm confused why they're saying the visa for this is different. May I know if you guys know what visa I need? Is there any chance the visa I’m applying for is indeed wrong? Before lodging my application I researched and I double checked and even asked the Greek embassy. I called twice explaining that my flight was moved earlier so I had 2 extra weeks before my pre-booked flight to my second destination, I asked what type of visa I needed and they confirmed that I need the Schengen Type C Visa Short Term (the same visa I applied for and got last year July 2018 with no problems at all at the French Embassy, I also have a valid 10 year US visa)

I do not understand because all my documents and my Father’s (the one funding me) are more than complete. As far as my knowledge I know Schengen Type C visa is the correct visa I need to participate, help out, volunteer for a short while on my vacation trip. Or please correct me if I am I wrong so I can apply for that required visa instead. Both my volunteering and vacation expenses is on me and my Father so I'm really confused also do you think I should go to the interview with a remonstration letter?

Also, I've just gathered information from fellow travellers from the Philippines and found out that the immigration process/system is quite strict when it comes to solo female travellers from the Philippines despite having met all the mandatory and required documents especially the young ones, I am 22 as people at these age don't usually apply or afford to go to Greece (info from them)

Hi All
I am looking to travel to Indonesia for approx. 8 days in January 2017 and wanting some advice on highlights and traveling as it is such a short space of time. I will be travelling from Phuket, Thailand and flying back to Bangkok. I am looking for beaches to both relax and snorkel (not dive) as well as looking for places to see Komodo dragons and Orangutans. I am a female travelling solo and would like to go to a place where I can meet other people, where there is a nightlife and it is fairly lively (although not full of teenagers as I am mid 30s!). I would be travelling mid range; I do not mind staying in hostels but with smaller dorm style rooms as opposed to larger ones. I have already visited Ubud and Gili Trewangan(loved!) so would prefer to go somewhere different.

Any advice or am I reaching too far for the stars?!!?
Thanks!

Hi all,
Looking here for some fresh advice. I did already South Island and this time focus in North Island. Can I get a suggest Itinerary ? I am doing this in 10 days - if distance is not a killer, I will enjoy driving stoping and sucking great scenery outdoors, I love great food and will be doing this trip as solo female traveller.

Departing from Auckland, not too worry about budget. What wouldn't you miss in North Island?

Someone recommend this about one year ago for 12 days trip:

1 Auckland
2 Auckland
3 Paihia
4 Ahipara
5 Auckland
6 Whitianga/Hahei
7 Rotorua
8 Taupo
9 Napier (wine) OR National Park/Ohakune (scenery/hiking)
10 Wellington
11 Wellington
12 Auckland

Hi, I'll be in Jakarta for work for a week and would really like to take the opportunity of being in Indonesia to see something else of the country if I can!
I don't have very much leave to take, but could manage about 3 extra days. Can anyone offer any tips?
Ideally someplace with a mixture of culture and natural beauty, easy to get to by public transport or a short flight, and safe for a solo female traveler.
(Bali is an obvious place if I can get a reasonable flight, but is it silly to go there for just a couple of days?)
Thanks!

Although I am not a female I can tell you how i did this to avoid problems. If you take the bus to the gate of the park and pay for entry fee then start walking up the road towards the park you can hitchhike from there. Just make it clear that you want to go to Alplager and they should understand. The guy who took me asked for 100 SOM. On the return there were one or two taxi at Alplager who took me back to the place where you pay to get into the park, although I had to bargain a bit with them for a decent price...but Incannot remember the exact amount! I did see other female solo hikers on my way up to the glacier and mountain hut. Enjoy!
