Hi! Does anyone have any knowledge about this carnival, I have read that it is the most typical in Portugal.
Specifically I am walking a few days of the Caminho do Mar, from Lisbon to Torres Vedras, then going on to stay with a friend in Obidos. I have only just realised that I will be in Torres Vedras on the Monday of Carnival week, complete with backpack!!! I'm pretty old and not inclined to hang around for hours but if I can see something in the afternoon/early evening I would like to.
Thanks.

1/2 days to the desert! is impossible. As above you need 4 days for such trip, so unfortunately skip it.
Or, you can go to so called Agafay desert, it is 1 hour by bus from Marakech though there are not sand dunes at all, only stones and gravel. But you can ride camel there, if you are looking for that.

Hello, I am not so much looking for information about where to go or what to visit, more on the type of logistics I might encounter travelling off roads, sometimes sleeping in my vehicle (preferably in our around small villages) and not planning in advance where to go next. As for the heat... I live in Portugal where the tempretarure can rise do 45º in summer, so I am sued to it (and I love it) ! Our rough route would be something like Tangiers - Fez - Marrakesh - Casablanca - Rabbat - Tangiers, but preferably not via the main roads. If you have any tips, they would be very welcome.

Hello,
We are preparing a one-month nature trip in Chilean Patagonia. Just Chilean, because we went around Argentina a few years ago.
Where we are:
Arrival in Santiago, then flight to Punta Arenas.
Two days in Punta Arenas.
Two days in Porvenir.
Journey to Puerto Natales via Punta Arenas. (We did the W trek during our Argentinian tour)
Ferry to Caleta Tortel.
We would like to go back to Puerto Montt
It is from there that the questions come !! There are lots of places where it is almost impossible to get there without a car and where you can not rent one!
Cochrane and Patagonia Park
Puerto Bertrand and the Rio Baker
Puerto Rio Tranquillo and Laguna San Rafael
Villa Castillo and Cerro Castillo Park
The Junta and Puerto Raul Balmaceda
After, it is Chiloé and the region of lakes that do not pose a problem.
thank you in advance for your help

In late December/early Jan, we will be visiting Petra (1.5 days), Aqaba (just to celebrate the new year, really), Amman and the Dead Sea. We will tour Wadi Rum as a day trip en route from Petra to Aqaba.
My question is on day trips from Amman - we're planning Jerash and Um Qais on one day, Madaba and Mt Nebo on another, and were wondering whether we should also visit the desert castles (Al Kharaneh, Qasr Amra and Al Azraq) or is that not going to be quite as impressive as the other sites, and perhaps too many ruins to enjoy in a short space of time?
In Amman itself, we will visit the Citadel, the Roman amphitheatre, the temple of Hercules and the Jordan Museum. The trip already feels very rushed (8 days), so I was inclined to drop the desert castle tour. Views?

We have three weeks in Morocco. Thinking about spending three nights in Fez followed by two nights in Meknes. Would like to do a day trip to Volubilis and Moulay Idriss. We understand that you can do the day trip from either Fez or Meknes. From Meknes or Fez, we will head to the desert. Any opinions as to whether it's worth staying in Meknes and doing the day trip from there....or would it be better to just stay in Fez and do the day trip from there?

We were in Yazd and decided to do a late afternoon desert trip, with dinner in the desert. We had the tour with Farvardinn, specifically Mr. Masoud's brother, Mohammed.
The tour was amazing, the desert near Yazd is beautiful, and the climbing of dunes by jeep is a lot of fun =) the dinner was vegetarian, very tasteful, and the night allowed for amazing stargazing =)
The tour operator made everything very professionally, both in talking with Mr. Masoud and in all things by the funny and lovely Mr. Mohammed.
Highly recommended =)

If an unsolicited Moroccan street deal appears too good to be true it nearly always is a trickster at work, welcome to Morocco, you have now received your initiation into the devious world of the desert tour, I avoided it by travelling alone on local banger buses and one equally banger Peugeot 504 taxi, on arrival at Merzouga I emerged from the taxi and was greeted by the local "mafia" guide line up, which I avoided by disappearing into the Berber emporium, when the coast was clear I jumped back into the taxi, the old driver was clever and had waited for me recognising I did not fit the profile of a regular tourist after I had helped him change a flat tyre on the banger Peugeot.
Part two of your initiation involves surviving an evening session in any of Morocco's many working class bars without being hustled for free beers or being targeted by the notorious alcoholic street girls.....this is where it gets tricky, stay close to the front door!
hello alberta travellers
i'll fly paris to edmonton on 27 may
my big plan is to go straight from edmonton airport to the nearest walmart to buy a cheap mountain bike + a trailer for bicycle ( any trailer , cargo or for children !! )
then i'll be on the road again .. and look back no more , no more
i've checked few times the walmart internet site , it's not really clear ..
1 should i order online everything to pick it up in my chosen shop few days later ??
2 do they stock these goods so i can buy them off the shelves like anything else ??
i guess it is probably very easy to find a mountain bike in one of their edmonton supermarkets but for the trailer it looks more hazardous ..
i did the same few years back in las vegas , i found everything i needed straight away from the first WM i went
it was fly - buy - go ( to some canyons .. ) !!
thank you very much for infos + your fine customer's expertise !!
janick
my kingdom for a trailer !!
the mountain bike will be a basic steel/acier - 26 inches wheel ( 78 - 98 dollars )
the trailer will haul my camping gear and much more
I can't advise on whether to pre-book tours ... we have always had our own vehicle with us.
I would probably hold off ... you might well meet someone over dinner who has a vehicle and will be happy to take you. And there will always be a shuttle available ... you don't really need any tours to either Uluru or Kata Tjuta - just transport there and back.
You need good shoes / boots, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a bottle of water, plus a few nut bars for lunch.
I literally meant check out the night skies ... they are fantastic. But there are various "Dinner under the Stars" and "Dining in the Desert" type options - they're probably expensive. And there is a small telescope permanently set up, and park rangers give night talks regularly.
