Thanks for the report. Look forward to more about your trip.
We were in Ojuelos a couple years back. I didn't get much of a vibe one way or another. Or maybe I wasn't paying attention. The lady at the tourist booth inside the fort was friendly. Maybe bored?
Likewise I'm avoiding going near Celaya these days. Which is too bad, the centro is nice. The local tránsitos there are known to shakedown gringos with foreign plated cars too.

Well, I read the whole thing, and it looks like a 2 month trip, not a 6 week trip. I don't see how you could do it in 2 months unless you cut out various destinations, or eliminated one of the 4 countries entirely. For instance it would be easy to mostly eliminate Honduras if you made Copan Ruinas your only stop there.
Also Nicaragua has not completely recovered from the violence that occured earlier this year. Reports are that Ometepe is dangerous for tourists, with lawlessness conditions there. And reports are the famous handicraft market in Masaya was burnt in the recent violence.
Hi,
We are planning a trip to Central America, and look into surfing possibilities with kids 8 years and 6 years old.
We look into location, and pricing - Panama and Costa Rica tend to be expensive, at least the locations we found on the internet. We plan to travel in December-January.
Can anybody recommend a good, not expensive surfing classes options in Central America?
We are in a backpacker state of mind, and are NOT looking into resorts - so it would be great to have a laid-back experience, not "over-organized", with locals who know surfing and with who it could be great to have a beer after a day on the sea? Many thanks!

Hi Andrea,
Thanks for your reply. Im never usually so apprehensive about a travel, I have just heard mixed reports about safety in the region, and I am aware of some incidents that happened. When there is locust infestations, the population can become more volatile. On the other hand I have also heard positively great things about travel there.
I believe a guide is necessary, even though I usually travel solo, however its probably a lot more complicated here.
I am happy to take part in some guided trips, but probably not for my entire period there.
Im scheduled for 17th March although I may push it forward a week or 2 .
Im on Instagram: oneworldreminders

I had to take a taxi in cela from Alamo bus and it was fine. Very easy.
The bus ride was very good too with a toilet stop at a very nice restaurant location.
I'd been apprehensive about the bus and taxi but shouldn't have been. An altogether
positive experience.
Thanks for reporting back. Glad you had a good trip.
Speaking of Day of the Dead, here's my trip report from Oaxaca two years ago: https://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/forums/americas-mexico/mexico/trip-report-dia-de-muertos-oaxaca?page=1#post_22291636
Customs vary from place to place, so I hope you will post a trip report about celebrations in Tepoztlan, or wherever you go.

Have to be a pretty savvy traveler to even contemplate a trip to VZ these days.
I've seen enough credible reports to indicate Nica has more or less settled down into the new, depressing normal. But, the country is much like it was in 1979--how long can that last before really, really blowing up?
Planning to travel from Kengtung to Taunggyi in January and still waiting for the first report from somebody who succeeded to to the trip using public transport.
It's nice that they opened a new border crossing but as long as they are restrictions for onward travel in this area I doubt that it's going to be used by many FIT.

Thanks so much for the link for this on TA, Marcus! Very informative to read your trip report. My plan is to do a bit of the same route, but other way around (flight to Tamale from Accra, Sirigu, Village near Kumasi, Cape Coast/Elmina, Keta, if times allowes a bit more of Volta region). I travel relaxed, due do my physical condition and i want to experience daily life, so normally stay with locals or at least in villages for some days, in one case planning 2 weeks.
Do the people who travelled to Ghana think i'll experience a bit of the different local life / culture if i stay in the places mentioned above? I'm not really interested in wildlife or nature, so will skip Mole and only visit Wli if time allows me and my host family will be nearby.
