Hi All,

I'm planning for my summer vacation already, and I'm planning on going to Colombia. I've wanted to visit for a long time, but for some reason or other it never worked out. That changes this July. :)

I'm curious about other travelers' thoughts on going to Colombia solo. I plan on spending a month there, and apart from reading the State Department's Travel Warning for Colombia, I have no idea what to expect when I go there. I'm planning on going to San Andres out in the Caribbean; Cartagena; and Mompos. Perhaps also Tayrona.

I see that lots of people travel in group tours in Colombia, and so I wanted to see if any of you have travelled in Colombia solo recently, and if you have any Colombia-specific solo traveler tips. Thanks!

Hello,
You should take Safety shoes or indestructible shoes which is pretty comfortable for long wearing I mean traveling even running. Because they made to keep traveling in mind. It has a flat sole, not more in weight and less expensive.
I always put those shoes with me on travel. Thanks.

Without knowing a single thing about me as a person, you've gone ahead and levelled 5 or 6 judgments about me, my family, and my motivations.

I can only work with the material you have provided and that's what I've done. Your posts indicate that you are inflexible, anxious, and you intend to impose preset expectations on an area you haven't visited or researched.

This is (or used to be) a forum for independent, curious, adventurous, problem-solving travellers. You would be better to stick with Rick Steves, or some other similar forum that specialises with package tourists and doles out reassurance about utterly trivial matters.

I am going to Barcelona May 21 for a week. I plan to stay in a hostel.
My primary considerations are:
1. Convenient location to main points of interest (or transportation to them)
2. Nice hostel
3. I've never been to Spain but in hostels other places often there are (often free) group activities. Meals, walking tours, bar hopping tours, etc. Because I will be solo I am looking for a lively place and if they exist, with those types of activities.

THANKS!!

LOL. OK, so I posted an update on Xilitla (I am visiting there almost every year sine 2010) - while keeping this tread in mind.

Fair points, and I appreciate your desire to help my family have a better trip.

For context, I've done travel many different ways, including numerous trips where I relied solely on public transit. Believe it or not, there are things about me (and my family) that can't be summarized by our continent of origin. This trip, for reasons I won't go into, ended up being more "pre-cooked."

In any case, this thread has clearly run its course. If I have further questions (about Central Portugal more generally), I'll do that via a new posting.

Thanks again.

I have driven through Mexico and am currently in Chiapas. My motorcycle is having problems and needs an expensive kit which could take 2 weeks to arrive from the states. I don't think the bike is worth the trouble as it has many miles and small problems.
i was thinking maybe I could cross into Guatemala to recover my $500 USD deposit from mexico for the tvip and then rid myself of the bike by legal or slightly less legal means and fly out either to cdmx or back home
Would I be stopped at the airport in Guatemala? Could I get into the country without a Guatemala import permit? How would I prove to customs/aduana that I sold the bike?

I'm thinking of visiting Nicaragua for a month in November. I was just hoping for some advice as to whether this is a bad idea... The reports of unrest seem intense and slightly worrying - is it still an issue? Equally, from what I have read online it seems that the main issue would be that many businesses (due to the unrest) have been forced to close. Has this made travelling there more difficult? I would be a solo female traveller so I'd be really grateful for any advice. I've wanted to visit Nicaragua for years - if now is not the time then maybe it's something to revisit when it has recovered slightly more?

Your plan doesn't include the Maramures region, that's a big miss.

Budget at least two weeks for this route.

For a solo traveler public transport is the best option.

In Vientiane, be VERY, VERY CAREFUL about a place called Walkman Village 2 (near Home Ideal). They are swindlers. They sold me a JBL Flip 3 whose Bluetooth does not work at all. It is not the one I had chosen, they changed it in the box and it is surely a fake: the red label JBL does not exist! BEWARE!
