Hey, after reading about the magical Phu Lang Ka Resort I'm desperate to go there during my trip to Thailand this summer. Ideally I'd like to go there from Chiang Rai, does anyone know how I could do that using public transport?? I cannot drive and I'm travelling alone so i definitely can't go by car or motorbike.
I think it might be possible to go to Chiang Kham from Chiang Rai then get a bus from Chiang Kham. I'd like to do the journey in one day though (not stay over in Chiang Kham). Is that…
My sister and I have to return home to attend a family event in Sept 2009 (yep, I know ages away!) in Australia, on our way back to the UK we are planning to stopover in Thailand for 1.5 weeks to do some diving and our Advanced open water course. We were thinking of Koh Tao, however I have noted that the end of September is monsoon season there, so I thought Koh Pi Pi might be a better option weather wise. My only problem is I'm really not keen on going anywhere near Phuket, as I think that…
We are an early 30s couple based in Tokyo, heading to Koh Pha-Ngan for our second holiday there. We'll be staying for 14 days starting at the end of June. Last year we stayed at Hat Yao on the northwest side of the island and enjoyed it very much. It had what we were looking for: a long, relatively quiet beach that was good for swimming, a few restaurant choices and a couple of quiet bars (that went unvisited).
We would like to find something similar, but at a new locale. We were thinking of Ao…
Yeah this is a weird post but....taking the grandparents to Ko Pha Ngan for their 50th wedding anniversary. I want to find the best place for us to stay while giving them a relaxing and nice time. The exception being that I'm 25, and no doubt will want to be able to go grab a beer and meet people. In other words, don't want to be too far away from civilization. So where shoud I be looking accomodation wise??
If there is a better island to check out, I'm all for that as well. I just figured that…
I've just been on Koh Ngai (Koh Hai) and it's very nice, with clean, uncrowded (although quite rocky) beaches. We stayed at Koh Ngai Paradise, which is a well-run medium-priced bungalow operation run by a friendly family. I liked it better than Koh Ngai Villa, which gets a recommendation in LP. Koh Ngai Resort is a big upscale place - we saw it when we went to catch the ferry to Lanta. it even has its own pier. Not my cup of tea.
We were island-hopping and stayed on Koh Kradan, Koh Ngai, Koh…
I'll be staying at the Holiday Inn at Phi Phi Do, and I'd like to take a tour to Maya Bay.
Can anybody recommend a tour company that has tours departing from Phi Phi Do?
Most of the tours I've found departs from Phuket, and the one arranged by the hotel is too expensive...
Thanks!!
No not the best time for weather. I recall a couple of times in December sitting on an Andaman island hearing about the Thai navy going in to rescue tourists that had been stranded on the Gulf islands for days because of storms and heavy seas.
Ofcourse past performance is no guarantee of future performance - everyone remains optimistic ;) - and you will see that the islands are still overrun with tourists in December.

Hi,
I'm heading off to Thailand in Jan/Feb and finishing my time by in Ko Pha Ngan. I'm hoping to get from there across to Phuket and fly back to Australia from there.
I realise the ferry will get me back to the mainland (Kon Sak), and I'm hoping to catch a bus or some sort of transport across to Phuket, and then get across to Karon or Patong.
I'm a first time solo traveller and not sure how easy this will be. I've been told the road is very windy and may take 6-8 hours. Any suggestions or…
