There are few borders you can use - below are detailed instructions from the Canby Publications website for the easiest route - you can grab a canby guide in kampot which will have the same instructions inside to carry with you -

"From Kampot, arrange a taxi to the border (Phnom Den) through your guesthouse. Private taxi costs about $25 and take 2-3 hours. If you like, the guesthouse can help to find other travelers to share the taxi with you and reduce the per person cost. The taxi will…

I've just found this website on Ho Chi Minh City. Pretty useful. Got news items, events and city listings and articles on the city. Also tells you what's going on at night. Was really helpful for New Year's Eve.

Hanoi. Stay in the Old Quarter. Temples, mausoleums, museums (of Ethnology especially) good walking, funky shopping, excellent food, cheap, fun blend of old and new. 2-3 day trips to Halong Bay (be sure to grab the sea-kayaking option!) and/or Sapa (sleeper train up and back) for those who have a full week or more; it can all be arranged in Hanoi.

Been there half a dozen times; hope to be there a 1/2 dozen more.

Hi all

looking at going to Vietnam in December and have identified Phan Thiet as a possible destination.

What is the best way to get there from Ho Chi Minh, how much would it cost and how long would it take?

I'm looking for feedback for the Oscar Hotel in Ho Chi Min. I'm also after a website for them, I have searched everywhere but can only find booking agents.

I'm also open for suggestions for other accommodation in Ho Chi Min, under $100AUD per night, though not wanting backpacker hostels.

Cheers JJ,

I will try it, though I usually try and avoid airport restaurants. But as you said: it can absolutely not be worse than the old one:-))

Hi

Just looking for some advice for travel from Ho Chi Minh.

We are only going to be there 6 nights, but were thinking of spending a couple of nights at a nice beach resort, maybe Mui Ne.

My question is, is it worth the trip out there by train for only a couple of nights? Or would we be better of staying in and looking around the city.

Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated on this, including how the train trip is etc.

Thank you.
