Hi all,
I will be in the north of Thailand (flying into Chaing Mai) for 5 days. I have heard great things about Pai and also want to be sure to check it out.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a great place to stay? Not looking for something lux, but would love something that has a lot of character and is nestled in the beautiful surroundings --- and, ideally, somewhere where I can meet other travelers.
Additionally, are there other areas up north worth checking out? Or is 5 days a good…
Bit of a long shot I know, but does anyone know where I can buy a camera in Pai? Digital camera, not film or disposable. I'm here for a few more days and my phone camera has broken. Still loads of things I wanna get pics of while I'm here!

I cant remember why ,but I started at Pai ,did the loop and ended back in Chiang Mai . Next time I will do the same route .

Love the herbal Sauna- GoodLife- bout 300B for 2- they only have two rooms- but i really like the owners- free yoga and meditation- and great healthy food
Normally fairly cool up there I believe - may not need the ac. I stayed at a cracking little place at one end of town on the river. Come out of the bus station, turn left and at the end of the road fork left, there is a bridge over the river on your left. Little huts with mosq net, double mattress, I think it was about 150b

Krabi is way nicer than Samui, which is now over-priced and polluted - don't expect clear water there.
Ferries are safe, but a bit hit and miss - they almost always eventually turn up, but the smaller boats are often late.
You don't need to book in advance in low season, but you do in high season, unless u want to spend ages traipsing around looking for a room, which will be the grottiest, most expensive one left. In mid-October u should be OK to just walk in.
