If you really want to see Thailand, don't just beeline for the beaches. (which is what most people do). You can take an overnight bus to Chiang Mai and spend some time in the north. Chiang Mai is my favourite city in Thailand and after several visits I always return there. I would recommend spending time in the north. You can then fly from CM to Krabi or Phuket and hop on a ferry to Koh Phi Phi.

But if its just the beaches you have your eye one.. then take a bus or fly to Krabi or Phuket and…

Hello,

I've been thinking about this for quite a while now...we will be working our way up from Ko Lipe starting around April 1 to end up on Phuket to catch a flight back to Bangkok on April 15 in the afternoon. I was in Patong for Songkran 7 years ago and have to say I really liked the water madness there.

Right now I'm wondering if it might be better to stay on Phi Phi for Songkran and just go through Phuket to catch our flight because it seems that Patong is less fun and more sex tourism…

Look I haven't used that outfit - the price seems okay but if you are nervous about booking online, wait until you hit Phuket. You will find hundreds of places offering PP tours including your hotel's travel desk. Shop around for the best deal which can vary. I've never been let down by trips I've booked this way.

Hi,

We are planning to visit Krabi in mid-Oct (for 5d/4n) and would like to do some diving and snorkeling in the area. We understand that this is the low-season which is also the wet season. So we are wondering if it is still possible to dive during this time or are dive operators pretty much closed in the low-season due to rough sea conditions?

Another question is are there any Stand-Up Paddle Board rentals available in the area? There seem to be a lot of kayak rentals but so far I have not…

I mean i need not worry about my belongings or myself right? Like how i need to be watchful in places like Bangkok?

With that attitude you should worry! No where in the world is THAT safe. Thieves and bad people are everywhere.
However, a little common sense goes a long way.

Incidentally, Bangkok isn't a particularly dangerous place for a tourist, and the most dangerous thing a tourist can do is ride a motorcycle. Several are killed every year.

I finally found some info for you....Sorry for the delay.
There are a couple of dive shops that do go to the wrecks but they don't go in the monsoon season. I was told that the currents are too strong in the area and the visibility is very bad. So they wont be going again until probably October.

The first 25 minutes is steep to moderate climbing through thick rainforest up the eastern side of the island. This is followed by 20 minutes of relatively flat bush-walking on the elevated plateau. As the track starts its steep drop down towards the village you come to the famous Town Viewpoint with a fabulous outlook over the narrow Ton Sai-Loh Dalum isthmus and its twin beaches, backdropped by precipitous limestone cliffs higher than your vantage point. Another 15 minutes of steep downhill…

When you get to Phi Phi Don it's easy to hire a longtail boat for a private trip to Phi Phi Leh. Probably cost you about 2000 baht. Be warned that when you get to Maya Bay it will hardly be a private trip - you and about 100 other boats doing the same thing every day. The group tours are better value and take in snorkeling at mosquito and bamboo islands which can be pretty good.

I just came back from Ko Phi Phi and wrote a review about it on my blog....unfiltered.

Ko Phi Phi is overrated!
