Chiang Mai has nice resorts. Every island does too. Bangkok has nice hotels on the river.

Nightlife without nightclubs? Nightclubs and pubs are 90% of nightlife. Only Bangkok has good nightlife imo. Pretty crap elsewhere.

Good food is found in most places except tourist ghettos.

NO ONE has recommended the bus from Bangkok to Chiang Mai we recommended the overnight train. Save a nights accommodation and should they wish they could pick it up at ayutthaya or Lop Buri and see a bit more of Thailand

Indeed. Unfortunately it gets forced down one's throat never mind what the topic/question is...

About 2 per cent of all posts . Actually it was you who brought up the issue of Phi Phi and over development. I only mentioned over development in relation to Hat Rin beach. There used to be poster called Tools4fools who said same thing about Hat Rin.

Like when folks ask about resorts with swimming pools on Koh Mak. Waahhh, it's a developed mainstream tourist resort island, you have to compromise, go to some isolated beach on Koh Kood...or even Koh Wai...

That poster said his first concern was finding the best quality beach.

Complete disregard for the OP's question.

Its not a robotic forum.

Predicting the start, the intensity, the duration, of the smoke/smog hot season in Chiang Mai or mainland SE Asia is like predicting the weather. Your date Feb 22 stands at the cusp of the hot season smog season. Last year was exceptionally bad. Will it be the same? Better, worse? If you are concerned, why not make plans now for an alternative. Say islands or beaches on the Andaman sea.

Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our pandemic.

I think nearest airport to Tachileik is Chiang Rai. Not sure about prices from there. I paid under 1,000 baht Mae Sot to BKK with Nok Air, inc. luggage, flight was on time, in fact early at Bangkok, DMK airport. Bus will be much cheaper in Myanmar, in Thailand not much difference I found. I flew from Udon Thani to Bangkok that was about 1000 baht I think. Cheapest/quickest way would be bus to Mae Sot then fly from there to Bangkok.

I’ll comment on myself firsthand. Just did Dan Sai to Chiang Khan today (117km). Cyclist paradise! Flat valley and then ondulation with no more than 4% short climb - just for the fun of using all the back gears. Used to be rough parts based on 2014 CGOAB Journal, now all paved except a two km that they are currently working on. Highway 4 South in Laos leeds to no border crossing on the 2195 in Thailand.

Hi everyone
We are a family of four, 2 adults and 2 children, age 13 and 2. We are going to Thailand and have to spend one night in Surat Thani before sailing to Koh Phangan the next day.
Do anyone have any recommendations on good hotels in Surat Thani??
And does anyone have any advice in terms of what is smartest, spending the night in Surat Thani or going straight to Donsak Pier(where the Ferry leaves from) and find a hotel there??

Thanks:-)

Personally I can't see kids that young having the slightest interest in Thai ruins, or temples, even less so, given the heat/rain. Chaing mai or Rai, neither child will remember which was which, but might remember a snake or monkey. Whichever country you choose, I would limit your destinations, cut down on the amount of travel time, and try to pick a few places that offer something for all of you at the same time. Maybe think more in terms of experiences ticked off, rather than places,

"2 days in Bangkok. 2 days in Ayutthaya. 2 days in Lopburi. 2 days in Phitsanoluk. 2 days in Chiang Mai. 2 days in Pai. 2 days in Mae Hong son. 1 day in Chiang Mai. 3 days in Koh Samui. 2 days in Koh Phangnan. 2 days in Koh Tao. 3 days in Khao Sok. 2 days in Krabi then i don't know, maybe to Phuket for 3 days and flight back to Bangkok."

I would suggest
Bangkok 4 nights (daytrip to ayuthaya)
Kanchanaburi 2 nights
Chiang Rai 3 nights (incl overnight tour)
Chiang Mai 4 nights
2 nights overnight trek extra
Fly Krabi 4 nights
Lanta 4 nights
Mook 3 nights
Trang 2 nights
Fly back to Bangkok.

Much better.
