Buski, your last trip was 10 years and one baby ago.... and I think alas as a grownup you now will be happier if you plan ahead just a bit more. For example, have you noticed that with a child that age, you have a TON of stuff to lug along, and, annoyingly, the child will not help to carry ANY of it??!!! Not the back-carrier, nor the beach blanket, nor the fold-up "cane-style" stroller, nor the diaper-bag or lunch-bag ... None of it! Also you will find that when a 14-month old has had…
I also love Antiparos ... if you are short on time, and only have 2 days, Antiparos can be enjoyed in that time, as it is so much smaller than Naxos == the ideal solution of course, is to see both. Antiparos does tend to "close down" a bit earlier than Naxos, because the latter has a large year-round population (very diverse economy, with farming, vineyards, small mfg, crafts, aside from tourism) ... other indications of permanency (thriving school system, good hospital, town councils…
I agree that Antiparos is another good choice ... I stayed across from the small ferry dock, and walked about 1/2 Km to a sandy beach ... with a toddler you'd need a pushchair ... The beach had some shade but, in May, no sunbeds & umbrellas for rent yet. There were some lodgings 50 yards or so from that beach, sorry I do not know names.
As for Naxos -- in the high season, you can stay out at PLAKA beach and it will not get that crowded, then take a bus in to the port town for nightlife (but you'll have to be Cinderella, and catch the last bus back to the beach, around midnight, or else pay for taxi). There area lso day-excursions under sail or motor vessels; the big-destination excursions are to Santorini or to Mykonos Delos. The small excursions are to 3 small "beach islands" and also to Antiparos, on 3-masters. Of…
You might very well love ANTIPAROS ... it has constant small ferries from Paros itself (either a 10 minute ride or a 25 minute ride) ... and you have the best of both worlds. Stay in Antiparos, near the village streets spreading out from the tiny pier, or just to either side, on a lovely sandy beach, much of the island is walkable, including a stunning "sunset beach". The evening scene in the "Agora" (the windy, mazey town lane) lit up at night, is enchanting. AND you can zip over to enjoy…
trish, you don't say WHEN you are going, makes a big difference -- if it's July or August, that's height of High Season, Paros will be crammed with European holliday makers, in that case, if it were Me, I'd rather STAY in Antiparos, more serene ... and go over to Paros for sightseeing, rent a 4x4 to zoom around to various beaches ... do nightlife in Parikia (port town), then zip back on a late ferry (10 mins) to peaceful Antiparos. The latter also has a lot of water sports, kayaking…
When are you going (affects crowds & heat) ? And will you rent a car at all? Actually, I think the best for the 2 of you would be Naxos and ANTIparos ... both have wonderful beaches that are walkable, in Antiparos ... and Naxos is great for St. George beach adjacent to town, for kids under 9 ... shallow & safe and clean... Antiparos has charm galore, and y ou have best of both worlds... y ou can explore the Town of Parikia on Paros, and Antiparos is just a 10-minute ferry ride or a 30…
I also had 3 days in a wonderful Folegandros hotel the end of may, 5 years ago or so... but it wasn't a costly splurge: Hotel Anemousa - https://www.anemousahotel.gr/en/article.php?cat=2 has an "infinity pool" i think they cll it, right o the rim of a cliff ... I kept thinking I was in that perfume commercial ... at the time a single was €35 in may, now it's 45, but wowee! Only caveat ... you walk down a Steep ramp to reception & rooms/pool, with no handrail .. not fun at night (I hope…
mike has a point... in some of the places, like Naxos & Antiparos, if you want a house it probably will be waay back from the beach, you might need to have a car. However, depending on whether you are going at the Height Of the July-August High Season or not (it is ALWAYS helpful to give approximate dates, "summer" isn't enough), you may be able to get more easily a "1 bedroom studio unit" -- which would have the bedroom & main room with table chairs, 2 day beds, kitchenette or kitchenette…
Re FERRY--, Strongly advise you take larger ferry... children get fretful in travel, and on a large ferry you can walk up and down the aisles, sit in cafes, go outside on deck, etc. In fast-ferry you are confined to your seat, almost no "public areas", and no outside deck. Please DO get "reserved economy" (also called "Aircraft seats -- although they are much larger and capacious than today's airplane seats!). This does not limit you to your seat, you may sit outside when you want, wherever…
