I always use "Budget" they are a reputable international company with competitive rates on a variety of vehicles.

If it is your first time you may want to think twice about driving. I certainly would not consider driving in or around Bangkok. Thailand has one of the worlds worst road safety records and the traffic in Bangkok is insane..

May be take the train or fly up north to Chiang Mai and hire a car there where the roads are quieter.

Only drink bottled water and the street food is fine.

I dont want to sound mean, but you are basically asking something like "what should I have for dinner tonight".

Myself, I wouldnt travel to Thailand for less than 2 weeks, so I would take my mother to Chiang Mai for a week first and then to a nice beach for the second week. And I would choose accommodation that are suited to her and her needs.

you would need papers. even then, i would imagine that there will be some kind of jealousy. If you are up to it, you can do what the other younger expats do, which is make money on the internet as a freelancer and the like. It has been becoming more popular lately.

read this here to learn more because it goes into more detail on how you can make money online.

In Chiang Mai there has never been a requirement for medical or police checks and have never known anyone from elsewhere who has required either.

Take the advice of Hull consulate then seek the advise of a visa agent at the location of your choice In country as to actual requirements. If you use their services it will cost you around 5,500baht and may be money well spent for initial retirement extension but subsequent extensions be brave and go it alone as it's not difficult providing funds are…

'short trip to Angkor (by plane; are 4 days enough?)'
Do you mean four whole days? If so, then yes. You can buy a three day ticket but you do not have to go for three successive days. You can take a day off if you feel 'templed out'.

Between Chiang Mai and Bangkok you could go to either Ayutthaya or Sukothai for the historical parks. As for beaches, pass. I don't do them.

It depends upon what kind of food you're looking for. I was seeking 100% authentic Thai, which I found in Nongkhai. It's only a small place though, so there aren't as many street vendors and markets as Bangkok or Chiang Mai. Having said that, I suspect I did miss a few gems in Nong Khai because I was out of town sightseeing one day and had other things I wanted to check out so never did get to the town centre, per se.

Hi Everyone! Me and my girlfriend are set to spend about 19 days (2 day travel each way) so about 14-15 days of actual travel in Thailand in mid March-early April. We've set a rough plan of how many days we want to spend in each destination and I was hoping to get some feedback on our outline and see if anyone has any tips to make our trip more fruitful and more bang for our buck.

We're trying to keep this trip fairly cheap (both grad students) so keep that in mind when making suggestions and…

Thanks for the advice, that's great. Perhaps I'll reconsider Pai. Have you been - if so, what's it like? I've heard mixed reviews.

What other places in the Chiang Mai area would you recommend? I'm thinking of perhaps doing a hilltribe trip.

I think you're right - visiting less places will be more enjoyable overall. Thanks again.

That above is all from a blog

Now ... there is a lot, a whole lot of thai food you won't find at your local Thai restaraunt. The question is, do you really really want to eat it? You could skip the blood and just go to any one of 4 or 5 local markets in Chiang Mai and get bile soup. Who doesn't like bile soup for breakfast?! And it is exactly what you think it is. Enjoy.
