We are a family of 4, with 2 children of 13 and 11 years. We have been travelling and backbacking a lot in Asia and we are planning to go to Myanmar for 3 weeks this July/August. I have been reading quite a bit now about Myanmar and I read most of the time people doing the same highlights (Bagan, Mandelay, Inle, Yangon, Kyaikto, sometimes Hsipaw) and it seems to me that it is getting more and more touristic at these places so I am doubting if we are going to like that so much. So I am thinking now - as we 'only' have 3 weeks - that we could travel through 1 region more deeply and go there to less discovered places as well. And come back another time to see the other highlights :-) Which area is fitted for this kind of a trip the best? Which areas have the most to offer? Do you have any suggestions? The children love culture but too many pagodes will not be necessary. We love nature, the mountains and also nice villages and getting in contact with the locals. We come from Bangkok so we could fly to Yangon or Mandelay. And finishing the trip at Lake Inle for a relaxing time would be nice I guess.

And some questions:
- As we start in Thailand, we could come overland from the south. As I read it this area is not very well discovered yet, but summer seems not to be the right time to go there. Am I right?
- Is the (long) bustrip Yangon - Pyay - Magway - Bagan an interesting trip?
- I thought maybe the route 44 would be a nice option, but I have read that this area could be closed. Any informatiopn about that? And is it an interesting part of the country?
- We had a great trip in Vietnam on the back of 2 motercycles together 2 guides. Does anyone know about something like that in Myanmar?

Hi Guys,

I’m due to get married next month and my fiancé are looking to honeymoon in Vietnam.
There’s a couple of things we want to do in Vietnam, pretty standard stuff, but we’re unsure on how to make the most of it.

I’ve researched/travelled enough to know that 100% perfect weather isn’t guaranteed at any time in the year but there’s a couple things we’d like some help with.

We intend on flying into Hanoi, before heading to Halong Bay to do a cruise. After this we’ll be heading to Da Nang to stay in a luxurious resort before returning home. Whilst in Da Nang we will visit Hoi An also.

  1. Is 10 days enough time? Is a week too short? We have a two year old that will be staying with our parents, so we’re slightly restricted on time.

  2. Is there a time of year that will (more or less) provide blue skies & clear water in both Halong Bay AND Da Nang?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi all,

I will be arriving in Hanoi on May 28th and kind of want to chill and explore for a few days before I begin heading South. I want to get a decent room for my first few nights and am wondering if anyone has a suggestion of a place and/or an area I should consider most. I will not be wanting to rent a scooter, just wanting an area I that is a good place for walking and exploring. I'm wanting to stay below $20 a night the first few nights before I start downgrading for the next few months. Also....I'm a 49 yo solo budget traveling male from Denver, Colorado. I plan to take the train south over the course of a couple of weeks, head up through Cambodia then up to Norther Thailand. Would totally be up for connecting with any other like minded individuals!

Thanks,

Jonathan

Dear all.

So I was originally planning to travel Africa this Summer, but my school has offered to send me to Cambodia for a student trip on July 16th-21st, and they'll pay for my air-fare, hotels, etc so it seemed silly not to take them up on it. So I guess this year I'm planning a South-East Asia venture. My total holiday is from July 1st to August 21st. And I have to be in Phenom Penh (Cambodian Capital) from 16th to 21st of July.

I was in Hanoi for a training course a couple of years ago so I've done North Vietnam. I was thinking therefore of flying into DaNang, and using the 15 day visa examption in Vietnam, to do a tour of Central and South Vietnam. Fly into DaNang, see Hue and Hoi An, before meandering South to Ho Chi Minh city before crossing the border into Cambodia. Does anyone have any suggestions about must sees or dos in this area? I should say that I'm not really into cities and nightlife, I'm more for hiking around or cycling around beautiful small rustic towns or rural areas. I enjoy swimming, cycling, hiking, local cuisine etc.

Now it APPEARS that the E-Visa you can get for Cambodia is valid ONLY on one land border between Vietnam and Cambodia, that being the Bavet Moc Bai crossing. But I've also heard you can pretty much get a visa on arrival at any land border, but I can't find this confirmed anywhere? I'm learning towards getting the Evisa just so I know exactly where I stand. Luckily the land border that it is accepted is almost certainly the one I will use, so maybe that's best.

After my jaunt in Cambodia, I haven't really got a plan with where to go next, I'll still have a month to play with, and I'm considering going West through Thailand to Myanmar, north to Laos or maybe flying over to India which I've never done. Any suggestions on what might be the best of these plans?

Thanks a bunch.

Hi one and all,

I'm in China for a year and have a week's holiday to use, probably to use in December (of which the weather may be a consideration).

I just wondered out of interest what and where people would spend said week in Asia?

I really want to visit the Szechuan region, but it's actually looking more expensive, inconvenient and time consuming from where I am in Fuzhou to go. Flights I've found have been almost double that to make it to Chengdu than say Osaka.

I'm not particaulry interested in trying to cover much distance in the week, maybe only one or two places, just interested as to how others would spend their time.

Cheers,

Alex

Hi!

Me and a friend are travelling for 4 or 5 weeks, starting roughly 10th August. (Yes, we know its monsoon season and we're prepared :D). We'll be starting in Chiang Mai and travelling through Laos and ending in North Vietnam, going round Sapa and the likes.

We haven't begun planning yet so any and all suggestions of places to go, things to do, how long to spend in each location, how much to spend is much appreciated! Any advice or suggestions welcome! We'll be travelling very budget, so only cheap hostels for accom.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions :)

Hey all :)

Me and my friend are planning on going around Asia for a 3-4 weeks in April 2020.

Our main goal is to see orangutans in Borneo, and then travel either Cambodia or Vietnam (we know we will be short on time to do all 3).

So my question is, what's the most time effective way to do this? Where should we fly into to start with, what route to take to get as much out of our time as possible?

We love nature and wildlife, so on our list would be seeing as much wildlife in natural environments as possible, and I also would love to visit some of the historical parts of Cambodia (and by historial I mean the era surrounding the Khmer Rouge regime and Pol Pot), so any tips or tricks on where to go would be great.

Really look forward to hearing from anybody.

Thanks,
Al.
