On our 18 days road trip across Morocco, Casablanca/Fes/Desert/Atlas mountain/Marrakech/Essaouira we where thinking of making a detour to Chefchaouen , so we want to find out if November is a bad time to visit and if so we would come back another time .
Is it worth the detour ?
What about Essaouira in November ?
Have a trek booked for 18th Feb with Tesfa tours but they've not contacted me to mention anything yet...
For warm weather in November you must go south of the Atlas mountain range, towards the equator, the desert regions such as Merzouga and M'Hamid will still be warm enough for exploring in summer clothes, although it might be slightly cold during the night until the sun rises again at dawn.
Marrakesh is the usual tourist "magnet" for sun and culture-seeking tourists, however there are caveats attached to this advice, check out some of my previous writings on the mean streets of Marrakesh before…
You all helped me make a Morocco trip work out well, so I want to help you out. I will give you my thoughts and where I went.
First, I have to say that I enjoyed the trip to Morocco, but I will probably never return to the country. I am a fairly experienced traveler and went to India 4x, China 4x and Myanmar. I also visited Cairo, Bangkok, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Istanbul. The trip was nice, but I really loved India and Myanmar...cant really say I did that in Morocco. Part of it could have…
I guess it can be done, but not sure Fez would qualify as an easy daytrip, it certainly would feel dissatisfying to me as Fez deserves much more time than a few hours. A little bit closer Meknes could be an alternative. It's smaller and less touristic but here too, a daytrip would be a hurried visit. If Fez is acceptable then I would say that Moulay Idriss/volubilis is worth your consideration too.
Much closer to Rabat Sidi Buknadel has a Museum Dar Belghazi, Botanical garden and a beach. A…
I am thinking of doing two nights in the desert because even though it isn't the saraha it is as close as I have been. I just wonder if it is really worth it. I hear good things but just not sure what that second day is like?
I have from Wednesday morning off the Fez overnight bus until Friday morning for either a taxi or the 8 am bus back to Marrakesh-- so I figure I have two nights. Anyone have experience or thoughts on the number of nights in the dunes?
Renée
We'll be attempting this on June 3, during Ramadan.
Thanks for the detailed explanations of the possible routes . We're prepared for some twisty roads, but as my husband is prone to carsickness, it probably isn't worth shaving off some time to take the road from Inezgane.
We'll be in Morocco for 6 weeks beginning in mid May, culminating in Marrakech for a friend's wedding. We've visited the country before, way back in 2001, but then we only spent time in Asilah, Chaouen, and Fez, all of which…
...... I was there last February for an unplanned visit, Marrakech was to be an overnight transit stop en-route farther north, however, we stayed for three days and nights abandoning the original itinerary. I recommend you have a flexible and spontaneous approach to planning holidays in Morocco.
Check weather forecasts as you plan, no point travelling into bad weather and short daylight in Spring. A good idea to have a City-guide for Marrakech to hand, LP have a pocket-Marrakech, it is…
Because if it's easy to reach Fes and Marrakech by rail, you must backtrack to Casa at the end and you will pass through Casa between Fes and Marrakech too...
You will lost time in transports.
I will skip Chefchaouen.

Hi Andrea, this itinerary seems a bit too packed, you will not manage to do it trust me. I did a round trip from Rabat to Volubilis, Fes, Merzouga, Dades Valley and Ait Ben Haddou then back to Rabat and this took me a whole week and spent a lot of time on the road. The drive from Fes to Merzouga in itself takes a whole day almost non-stop driving and you will be so tired by the time you get there that you will want to spend at least two days just relaxing there. The drive from Merzouga to…
