Hi! Just looking for a bit of travel advice.

My boyfriend and I will be travelling round these 4 countries over 2 months. So far we are starting in Hanoi and heading down to HCMC via Halong Bay, Hoi An/Hue/Da Nang.

Then onto Cambodia doing Siem Reap/Battambang/Kampot/Phnom Penh.

Next to Laos (Vientiane/Luang Prabang/Huay Xai).

Then onto Northern Thailand for Chiang Mai (spending a week or so exploring National Parks from there).

Then flying down to Phuket to spend the last week down south before…

I was in Luang Prabang last summer and my wife and daughter did a half-day excursion with MandaLao Elephant Conservation. It's my uderstanding that they are a relatively new outfit and seeking to model themselves on the Elephant Nature Park near Chiang Mai. There is no riding of elephants, and the aim to provide an opportunity to interact with elephants in an ethical and non-exploitative manner that also promotes education and awareness.

Their excursions are pretty expensive (USD99 for a…

From a cultural point of view Myanmar wins hands down over Laos. As for landscapes, they are similar, unfortunately February comes after the harvest and no lush green paddy fields anywhere in both countries.
Shewedagon Pagoda in Yangon is worth a trip to Myanmar by itself, other highlights were Bagan and the the trek from Kalaw to Inle. I wasn't impressed by Inle lake and there are no cats at the Cats' temple. South of Yangon it was very hazy and, anyway, not much to see.
Highlights in Laos were…

We are in the midst of planning a 5-6 week trip to Thailand, Laos and Vietnam mid-Jan to end of Feb. We'll probably fly into Chiang Mai and travel through northwest Thailand, go to Laos, then northern Vietnam (maybe just Hanoi since it will be cold in Sapa) and then central Vietnam. At this point we're thinking we'd like to go from Danang to Ko Kut and fly back to the US from Bangkok. We don't want to do it overland because we'll be at the end of our trip. Any advice on how to do that trip? Fly…

Hello

We will take our two daughters (9 and 12) to Thailand for a month next summer. It will be their first long and exotic trip. My boyfriend and I have travelled in SEA before (...the kids!), but never in Thailand. We are a little worried about health issues (particularly in the summer time with the mosquitos) so we don't wait too basic accomodations or to go deep in the jungle. Nevertheless, we would want the girls to get a good glimpse at the culture in that part of the world (rice fileds…

Even if you are not a big city person, you should include some time in Bangkok, as it is a quite amazing place in my opinion (for food, atmosphere, temples, markets, river buses, massages, spas, shopping, modern and very traditional etc.). Not an "easy" place and it can be a bit overwhelming, so keeping Bangkok for the end of your trip is a good idea.

Plenty of places for beach time. For history and culture and temples and ruins, have a look at the former capitals Ayuttaya and Sukothai. For…

I've already posted in the Thailand forum about a spare week I'll have when I'm over there in August.

I've just looked into spending that spare week in Borneo and it's got me excited so I may be overlooking the logic.

I would be flying to Bangkok from London (flights already booked). Then straight from there to Kuala Lumpur and from there to Sandakan.

There is a tour I'd be joining which is basically just all things wildlife and includes everything I want to see. It picks up from the airport…

I am an over 50 year old, financially secure, retired, single guy. I'd like to move to Chiang Mai. I have lived legally in Argentina for many years, as a tourist, without residency papers and must leave every 90 days. The Thailand Consule General told me that they cannot issue me a visa, because of my status, here.
I've done some research, but I'm a bit confused. What are my options for visas? A retirement visa or a regular (long term) visa? Can everything be…

Hi! My names Amber I'm 26 from the UK. I attempted a travel trip last May but had some issues back home I needed to go back for. It's now time to jump ship again and see what the world has to offer. Then onto chiang mai, pai, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thai islands, Kuala Lumpur, penhentian islands, Bali then Australia. I'm…

I am from western Europe, I would like to come and live in Thailand for at least one year. As I am over 60 I was told by Chiang Mai University they cannot help me to get an Edu visa but I could apply for a non immigrant O or B visa. What does this require and how long do these visas last? If they cannot get a visa for me I am not sure it is a good option enroll with them for one year (fee 30000 baht). What other options do I have? A Thai friend told me since January next year people over 50…
