Buenos,

I have traveled a good portion of Latin America, with exception of El Salvador & Nicaragua.

1) Any word of advice for solo travel (male/40's) in the country at this point. I will have 8 days and plan to travel most of the countries regions, especially Parque Nacional Los Volcanes and Ruta de las Flores (for a couple of days) and Carreteral Litoral. Other than San Salvador, any safety consideration if I was going to rent a vehicle on my own? Would you recommend a guide for hikes in…

Hello Everyone!

I'm crafting a somewhat road-less-traveled itinerary for my 3-week stay in South Africa. I'm interested in travel to Lesotho as part of it. How does one do that without renting a car from Durban? (or renting a car, in general)

A little background: I am a seasoned solo female traveler. First time to southern Africa. Most interested in rural, beautiful areas. Slightly less interested in safari - but will definitely get at least one in either in Kruger or along the Okavango Delta…

Hi All,

I'm trying to plan roughly a month in Peru, I'd like to see MP of course and spend the rest of my time in Huaraz as I am an avid hiker. Which of these hikes are your favorite and which do you recommend for me in July? (Cordillera Huayhuash Trek OR Santa Cruz Trek or Salkantay) I think I may do the Salkantay and then one of the ones from Huaraz region. Cost might also factor into my decision making here. Also recommendations for companies or anyone planning to be hiking around the same…

Hello lonely planet pips!
Ive book a flight to Bangkok for 10 days. Aug 1 to 10!
And I wanted to make the most of my first solo backpacking trip! Im thinking of going to saigon by land. But not sure which is the best way to travel going there. Could anyone give me advice or suggestions based on your experiences? (Is it better to travel by train, bus, mini van?) I would really appreciate it! I am a 22 years old filipina btw! If any of my fellow filipino could also break down the cost it would be…

Hello there,
I'm heading to Iceland myself at the beginning of April. I've booked hostels already- 2 days in Reykjavik, then 3 in Bogarnes and still go one night to book. I've hired a car. I've booked to do a whale watching trip in Olasvik on my 3rd day and would love to make it to Husavik but I'm not sure the distance is doable and I'm not sure if the possibility of seeing Humpbacks is realistic to make the drive worthwhile (although of course there is never any guarantee.
In the UK, I commonly…

Hi, I'm going to take a short trip (about 7 days) to the SJD/CSL area in November for diving. I'm trying to sort out a couple of things:

1) Regarding diving: I am an experienced certified diver, and I want to see hammerheads, mantas, whale sharks, sea lions, and orcas. How many dives should I plan for? Obviously since it's a wild environment there are no guarantees, but if anyone has knowledge of the sites where sightings are more typical, and relative frequency of sightings during November…

Planning a solo budget travel trip but fed up irreverent and detached information?…

Before we go any further though, I need to stress this is not another ‘ultimate guide to planning a solo budget travel‘ or ‘my way of planning a solo budget travel trip is perfect‘ post.

I am in no way the perfect planner but I’ve managed to roam the world since 2010 without any major issues or trouble.
Starting as a wide-eyed backpacker, I saw, did, experienced, drank (a lot), learnt, grew (not in height), got…

Hello All!

I'm a solo traveller hoping to do the Everest Base camp and Gokyo Lakes trek at the end of this year, probably December time. As a solo hiker I feel it would be awesome to have a guide and/or porter to properly experience the trip and gain as much local knowledge as possible, and of course putting some money back into the local community. I definitely don't want to hike in a group. Ive contacted almost a dozen companies online who can do a private tour for anything ranging from 1,500…
