> From Penang, you can get a ferry to Langkawi. Spend a day or two there, then take another ferry to Satun in Thailand. Regular buses from there up the west coast, to Trang and Krabi and onwards.

How consistent are the ferries from Langkawi to Satun, Penang or even beyond?
We are likely to be travelling at the end of September and want to double-check that they still run during that season.

become more familiar with these amazing animals

Buy a book. Donate to a reputable wildlife fund. Even just read Wikipedia.

Any of these actions will provide more insight than a couple of hours spent molesting elephants for the sake of your social media account.

Thanks for all your "Usefull" info!!!!!!!!!!!!
I knew I would open a can of worms..........but don't judge me because I want to become more familiar with these amazing animals. I am FULLY aware of the exploitation of these ( and other animals in the wild), that is why I asked the question initially. Thanks to Chang Mai (post#7)....I will research your suggestion. To other posters....thanks for your "input".

I stopped flying United years ago. ANA has been the best I’ve used since then. Asiana comes in second.

As a Malaysian are you free entry to Lao and Cambodia? If so, a trip to somewhere like Seam Reap in Cambodia for a couple of days would be a lot cheaper than extending.

Don't forget you are only allowed 2 visa exempt overland crossings in a calendar year (Edit: or are you?).

Google the address of Immigration in Bangkok. The procedure is the same for all countries who are entitled to a visa exemption. Form, copies of passport-- main pages and Arrival stamp, photo, 1900 baht.
You could go to any bordering country but maybe stay a bit longer than a day to prove you are a genuine tourist.
