I would look at getting an open jaw ticket to Brazil (flying into one Brazilian city and leaving from another)... often it costs about the same as a regular round trip and it saves you time and money with domestic flights.

I see you are from Israel, so assume you will be connecting somewhere in Europe.... I would look at TAP Air Portugal which has nonstop flights between Lisbon and many Brazilian cities... or AirFrance/KLM which flies nonstop to Sao Paulo (GRU), Rio (GIG) and Fortaleza (FOR)…

Bit concerned about where best to stay and travelling on public transport if the services are reduced or erratic.

Should we just stay in Colonia?

Ciao, Mother Courage;
What sort of workshop are you going to do in Tunisia? Maybe none of my business, but I leave for Tunisia in a few weeks, and am interested in anything I can learn ahead of time. Have you been there before? It will be my first time. Plans are to join a group "Acacias for all" and do some tree planting in the desert.
I also do street theatre for local kids "Puppets for Peace" when I have at least one other person travelling with me, but this time going alone. Unless you'd like…

Take a deep breath and relax... You are rushing around the islands like mad...islands like Paros or Naxos deserve at least 2 or 3 full days each. What is the point going to Paros on day 3 just for a night's sleep ? Same question on day 4: you'll just have time for lunch in Mykonos. Also note that ferries sometimes run late or can be cancelled. I'd redesign day 1 to 6 and pick 2 or max 3 islands and stay 2 or 3 consecutive nights on each. That time of year and considering your kids, Santorini…

@stcirq, Not that I didn't like your advice; actually it made me think quite a lot about my planning. One thing I have feel here is the objectives of travel are poles apart between our ways of thinking, at least this at this point in time. Like I said before, your ideas indicate a thorough and comprehensive coverage that a region like Normandy deserves. As it is historically important, and has many places where the D-Day landings took place, a serious traveller would like to absorb the best of…

And why not to spend your night in Wadi Rum? It is wonderful there, such desert you have never experienced I would believe. It is one hour from Aqaba, you can stay there in Bedouin tent, do jeep tour and next day continue to Petra where you are after 2 hours driving.

We travel because we need to. Because the distance and difference are the secret tonics to the creativity. When we get home, home is still the same, but something in our minds has changed, and that changes everything.

I've seen some confusing info about this. I'm looking to get to Torres del Paine for the W trek. Do I have to take a bus all the way to Puerto Natales and then up to the park? Seems awfully out of the way. Is it possible to take a bus to the town of Torres del Paine, which looks like it's right over the border, and then from there to the park? Or find a way directly from El Calafate to the park? What about on the return?

I saw a previous poster mention contacting guides in El Calafate to see if…

Is it possible to do the trek alone by ourselves without guide or tour?
Is the path clear and marked?
