Koh Phaluai

Hello all, here is some information on Koh Phaluai.

GEOGRAPHY
The island is 98% florest / national park. About 10% of the island, the south part does not belong to the national park and is referred to as "private" (it is also mainly florest). There is only a partial road (part tarmac, part dirt road) along the private part coast, the rest is florest trails (without sign posts).
There is some resentment on the part of the locals against the National Park Authorities. We crossed over to the…

Hello, I thought I'd say thank you to all of you once more and get back to you with a bit of feedback. In a nutshell we had a great time. Though we were visiting many of the National Parks at the height of the summer season (Yosemite, Zion, Grand Canyon) we never felt the places were over crowded but that is largely because we chose to go either very early or late in the day. Other than the big cities, Los Angeles and San Francisco which were of course interesting, the highlight was trekking the…

Your plan is perfectly feasible. July and August is high season everywhere in Europe, you can't avoid it wherever you stay. As to the summer heat, it can get 35 degrees centigrade and even a bit more everywhere around the Mediterranean Sea. Among the countries you mention, only UK, Norway, Germany, the Czech Republic, the Swiss mountains and Northern France are on the cooler side.
So, don't worry about it.
It's difficult to make some suggestions as we don't know your itinerary within the countreis…

Hi All!

I have two weeks off and am planning a trip to SE Asia from Feb 24-March 9. I am a 25-year old single american female who has never been to Asia before! I am overwhelmed by the possibilities and need help narrowing down where to go. I need to book ASAP, as Feb 24th is right around the corner.

I like: food (street food, high-end food, DESSERT!), Alcohol (nightlife, bars, cheap alcohol), cultural sites, architecture (modern), seeing city infrastructure, etc.

I prefer walking around…

El Chalten (4 nights)
- complete various hiking trails
Bariloche (1night)
- Rest stop but might attend nearby mountains with chairlifts.

For this I assume you'll be using a flight between El Calafate and Bariloche, because going by bus would take 24 hours on the bus probably. Other than that problem I think your trip plan looks good.

It's very strange, because the north Chile is the Atacama desert. So typically there should be no rain. But in Feb this year and some other recent years there's…

In response to #11

I was there few years ago, before the first hotel was open.
Using a tent is the "normal" way of trekking there for most of the travellers in the Simiens.
It can be different with some tours but you must check with them.
It's always possible to make some day trips from the same place.

Sim card: cheap and you can get it at the airport. Orange Mobile is possibly cheaper but it does not work out in the middle of the desert. Tunisia Telecom will work--at least phone connection.

Carthage is a suburb of Tunis. The Presidential Palace is there. Tram takes 40-70 mins (longer at night).

Public transportation outside of the coastal region is best in the morning. Could be none existence by afternoon, particularly between small towns like Douz, Tozeur, and Matmata.

I booked my…

I have to agree with the others. Highway 50 is the way to go. The Grand Canyon of the Gunnison does deserve a stop. But maybe you would want to detour a few hours south on Hwy. 550 up into the San Juan mountains, through the town of Ouray up to Red Mountain pass. The San Juans offer the most spectacular scenery. You'd have to turn around, but you have the time for this. Once you reach Gunnison you're only half a day's drive from Denver.

When I was there (Feb 16) there was always a railing, a tree or a pole close by to which one could lock the bike, providing, of course, that the lock is supplied. Check this out!
