Agree with most of above within that timeframe though I would not entertain flying back to Dublin to get back to the US even if it is cheaper. Unless you fly with Aer Lingus on a connecting flight. And as above 3 days in London does not really give time for a day trip to the Cotswolds. I would fly to London from Ireland, depending on your itinerary you can fly from Knock, Shannon, Kerry or Cork as well as Dublin into London.

Hi all, I have a 12 day trip booked to Argentina in January (it is all I can spare with work and budget, unfortunately). I am seeing a lot of posts talk about how amazing BA is and that no matter how long you are there it is just never enough. I will be a solo traveler and have covered a lot of ground traveling on my own in the past, so I am wondering how long is realistic to plan to be IN Buenos Aires (no day trips, just BA) to do things in Buenos Aires. 4 days including the day I land at 5AM? +/- 1 day? I've decided to do the Northern half of the country on this trip so other plans include Iguazu Falls and Salta, and maybe the ferry to Uruguay for a day or two if time allows. As I make my itinerary and book tickets for other things, I want to make sure I have a realistic idea of how many days I should set aside for BA....not a "dream" number of days, but a realistic number.

Thanks!

For my money the only must see places in Argentina are Buenos Aires and Iguazu, where you visit the famous falls both from the Argentina side and the Brazil side. The rest of Argentina depends on your interests. It will be winter, so not warm in most of the country. But Iguazu will be comfortably warm, and so will other places in north Argentina, like Salta. Jujuy, etc. Patagonia is a bad idea in July.

It's possible to do an overland route going between Salta via Uyuni salt flats, going through San Pedro de Atacama in Chile. From SPDA you use the jeep tour where you stay in a salt hotel and visit a number of high altitude lagunas as well as the salt flats. You can do this route going in the other direction if you wanted to start your trip in Bolivia.

I'll leave Bolivia for another post.

Folks - sorry about the confusion. And apologies to friendly_checkingirl.....your first response reads like something auto-generated!

My question is a specific question about London Heathrow Terminal 2.

Arriving into Terminal 2, departing out of Terminal 2 - will I be forced to to go through Security again ?

I have been through LHR many times and have had to go back through security sometimes. I cant recall if i do if it is the same terminal arriving & departing.

I have looked at their website: https://www.heathrow.com/flight-connections - which suggests I would make it.

I arrive with Aer Lingus and depart with TAP/Air Portugal....Two different airlines. I have bought each leg separately & independently. I have hand luggage only and will have checked in, in advance online.

I was hoping to get someone on here who knows the LHR security layout better than me who could advise.....

Bit concerned about where best to stay and travelling on public transport if the services are reduced or erratic.

Should we just stay in Colonia?
Try to travel to Montevideo on tues 5th or weds 6th to be there for our flight thurs morning?

Any advice appreciated.
Cheers!

Sounds about right for BA, they're hardly the cheapest airline out there and with the reduced schedule they now have for Lima, well, it's unsurprising. Your best bet is most probably going to be transiting via the US (as horrendous as that is), just keep an open mind with dates and be flexible and not too demanding. Heck, you can even fly to Buenos Aires pretty cheap, or even soon Rio.

Hi All,

I need some advice. I am planning a trip to Argentina flying out to Buenos Aires from the UK and home again on the dates specified above. But I need some help with my itinerary....

Places I want to visit:

Buenos Aires
Cordoba
Mar Del Plata
Ibera Wetlands- Colonia Carlos Pellegrini
Iguazu Falls- Puerto Iguazu
Nahuel Huapi National Park-Bariloche
Glaciers National Park-El Calafate

And if I have time Salta and Mandoza......

How long do I need in each place I'm think 5/6 days in Nahuel Huapi National Park-Bariloche and 5/6 day Glaciers National Park-El Calafate . I'm not particularly into any sports or activities but just want to do a bit of walking and take in the scenery.

I'm thinking 3 days Iguazu Falls- Puerto Iguazu

And 4 days in Colonia Carlos Pellegrini (Does anyone know how to pan on how to get there?? I'm struggling...)

Do I need to book activities in any destinations before I get there or can I just go....

I'm gonna book internal flights....

Please can anyone advise. Advice would be much appreciated. Even if you have not been everywhere listed I would appreciate your support. I need to plan please respond.

Thank You,

Louis

Hello guys !

Thank you for your replies :D

@james2020 : I know La Paz is far from Colombia, but I was planning on travelling and visiting Bolivia and Peru before reaching to Colombia. I definitely want to visit Peru and Bolivia on my way to Colombia.

@mstep : Thank you for the tips concerning the domestic flights once in Santiago or Buenos Aires.
I totally forgot about Atacama desert, that would be a good idea to get to Bolivia through north of Chile indeed.

In four month I'd get enough time to visit Patagonia, go up north to Atacama desert and then Bolivia, Peru and finish the trip in Colombia ? Or should I still remove some places on the way ? I mean, I don't want to just visit the highlights of Peru and Bolivia (e.g Machu Picchu and Uyuni), I really want to experience the countries for like at least 3 weeks for both. I wish to visit 1 month each of these places : Santiago or Buenos Aires / Patagonia, Bolivia, Peru and finally Colombia. It seems like a reasonable itinerary but have no idea of the feasibility of it.

Regarding the budget, I guess I'll need to save more if you both agree on the fact it might be tight. Maybe 5000 ?

Thanks again ;)

Lima, Bogota, Santiago, Buenos Aires, Rio, and Sao Paulo are the biggest airports in the region so they should theoretically have the cheapest flights available, but from SE Asia, it won't be cheap no matter where you go to/from. You could, in theory, go to Tokyo or Honolulu then go via Papeete and Easter Island to Santiago and go the opposite direction, but that will be pretty costly.
