Buenos Aires and Ushuaia in June - What's it like ?

I am particularly wondering about Ushuaia in June. June seems to be the off season.

  • When I read about Ushuaia it seems like a cold place, especially in June. Do I need special Winther clothes ? I am thinking of staying at a hotel in Ushuaia and take daytrip sightseeing tours ...

  • is there any animal life to see at that time ?

In Buenos Aires it's possible to get mozzies if the city goes through a wet period. No way to predict that really. In El Chalten/El Calafate, absolutely no chance. It's much too cold at night, windy too.

I'm planning a trip across South America, possibly lasting around 6 months.

I was originally set on Ecuador down to Patagonia however I'm now interested in an internship in Buenos Aires so it has changed my route.

I was thinking the following: Buenos Aires > Patagonia > Chile > Bolivia > Peru > Ecuador.

Has anyone done anything similar and could you comment on sort of going back on myself by going from BA > Patagonia and then back up?

Hola!

I'm in Buenos Aires at the moment and am looking for a second hand tent. Anyone selling? Also looking for hiking poles.

Will be in Calafate from around the 17th October.

Thanks

One of the ideas was to head to Brazil to start stay for in Florianopolis to visit with friends, possibly heading to Rio, Then Buenos Aires, Then Patagonia, up to Santiago and then head north from there, still figuring out a time frame to fit in what we will want to be doing.

Greetings,

We will be splitting a 10 day trip between Buenos Aires and El Calafate this coming March. I would very much enjoy packing tips for a man and a woman with considerations to the weather in each location.

Kind regards
Cynthia

Hello
I was wondering if you had any thoughts on the itinerary I’ve put togrthe for my two week holiday to Argentina in March ( I have about 15 full days). I have to fly into Buenos Aires and fly our from BA and well.

Do you think 4 days in BA is about right or do I need longer ?

In your view is it better to get busses or fly ? My partner likes to book everything before we go away - can you suggest bus companies and flight companies as well that we can book in advance ? Reputable ones I’ve heard of are Aerolineas Argentinas for flights and Andesmar, Via Bariloche, Rio Uruguay and Expreso Singer. When I go on the websites they don’t let you book more than about 2 months ahead, is that correct ? It’s also quite difficult finding websites in English I’m finding.

Am I right in thinking I can use Salta as a base to do all the day trips I’ve suggested? Keen not to be moving hotel too many times. Can I book to go to the salt flats, rainbow mountains and the train the clouds ahead of time? If so, how/ who through?

Any suggestion for the 7-8th from salta? I suppose if we use buses to travel from BA to iguazu, iguazu to salta and salta to BA again we won’t have the the 7th and 8th spare as I’ll need to apportion more days for travel. I could always change round BA to salta and then on to Iguazu as well.

Monday 25 March - fly
Tuesday 26 March - arrive at 9am in Buenos Aires - full day in BA
Wednesday 27 March - full day in BA
Thursday 28 March - full day in BA
Friday 29 March - full day in BA
Saturday 30 March - full day in BA - afternoon / evening time travel to iguazu falls (either by bus (17hours) or plane which is shorter )
Sunday 31 March - iguazu falls Argentinian side
Monday 1 April - iguazu falls Brazilian side
Tuesday 2 April - travel to salta - again by bus or plane
Wednesday 3 April - explore salta (use as a base)
Thursday 4 April - day trip to salt flats
Friday 5 April - day trip to rainbow mountains
Saturday 6 April - train into the clouds ?
Sunday 7 April -
Monday 8 April -
Tuesday 9 April - travel back to BA (will want to be here a day before we fly to be safe) - again either fly or bus
Wednesday 10 April - fly at midday
Thursday 11 April - arrive home

In La Paz, it is quite likely you'll run into Fake Police, Fake Tourists and/or mustard squirters.
Sounds great, I found info on the mustard squirters but what on earth is a Fake Tourist?

Hello,
I am a British student and have come to Buenos Aires to study at the Univeristy of Buenos Aires from August-December 2017. I would very much like to meet as many people as possible whilst here and so am writing this in hopes of finding anyone else who will be living in Buenos Aires a similar time. It would be great to meet people from all over the world.

Thank you! :)

It makes sense to go from the salt flats to San Pedro de Atacama rather than head back to uyuni. From SPDA you can go to Santiago but it's probably cheaper and quicker to go from SPDA to Salta and then fly from there to Buenos Aires. Of course that's just taking into account cost and time, it might be Santiago route interests you a lot more.
