Sorry this is a bit of a last minute request, needless to say I could have done a search for this, however, the rate fluctuates considerably. Does anyone know the current rate for exchanging Euros for Pesos in Buenos Aires. I appreciate that U.S. dollars are the most preferred currency but I get paid in Euros. Also will it matter much what denomination notes I bring? I guess not too high, not too low

Buenos Aires and Ushuaia max 3 days each. Same for Mendoza unless you are a wine taster. Also, take into account the time needed for transfers by bus (check for overnight transfers wth comfortable bus). For Transfer by bus from El Calafate to Torres del Paine check the timetable. If you are a good trekker you might wish to spend more days/nights in Torres del Paine (doing the reknown W circuit). In my view just Santiago might not be a priority in your tour

I'm hoping you get feedback on your question about the weather in December, as I arrive in BA on the 2nd. I have read that it is very hot and humid at that time and many Portenos head for the beach. My apartment has air conditioning and I plan to enjoy myself whatever the weather is like. Buen viaje!

Hey,

I'm wondering if spending 3-4 days on the first week of september is a good idea?

Initially I've planned 1 day for Circuito chico and Cerro Campanario, 1 day for Ventisquero Negro and 1 day for hiking to refugio Frey and back.

I've read that tours to Ventisquero Negro start only on late December and I'm afraid that in September it'll be to cold for biking Circuito chico.

So, is it worth it to come to Bariloche for cerro campanario and maybe a 1 day trek to refugio frey?

I'll will be coming from Iguassu Falls and going to Puerto Montt catching a flight to Calama.

The other options for my Argentina itinerary are:

Buenos Aires (but I'm not into big cities) and Salta (but I'm not a wine guy and I've already decided to go to Rainbow Mountain, Peru). Also i've just returned from a ski trip in Austrian Alps, so I'm not interested in skiing in Bariloche.

Do you have any tips?

Every input will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks for all the responses. I think I will save Patagonia for another trip. I was thinking of flying into Buenes Aires heading across to Santiago and then working up towards Bolivia, Peru and finally Colombia. I am unsure as to whether to travel south to north or north to south? Also do people think this is doable in three months? Thanks!

Hi!
I was hoping to get some advice on my 3 week itinerary in Argentina and Chile.
My trip is booked from the 19th of April until the 11th of May.

I would like to know whether this planning is realistic, taking into account that I will not be traveling in high season?

In addition, I am considering to skip Bariloche and Puerto Varas to spend more time in Patagonia, as it adds another two flights to the itinerary. However, I'm a bit unsure as to how to spend the extra time this would give me. I've read about Parque Nacional Patagonia in Chile, which looks amazing, but it seems this can only be reached by car, which would entail a 12-hour drive from El Calafate and then another 12 hours to get back. What do you guys recommend?

This is my current itinerary:
- 19/04 fly from Buenos Aires to Bariloche
- 20 & 21 Bariloche (hoping to also visit to Nahuel Huapi)
- 22 & 23 Puerto Varas
- 24 travel to Puerto Montt, from there fly to Punto Arenas, bus to Puerto Natales
- 25, 26, 27, 28, 29: W circuit in Torres del Paine
- 30 - 2th of May El Chalten
- 3 El calafate
- 4 flight from El Calafate to Ushuaia
- 5 - 7 Ushuaia and Tierra Del Fuego
- 8 flight from Ushuaia to Buenos Aires
- 9 & 10 Buenos Aires
- 11 Flight back to Brussels

Thank you in advance for the feedback and input!!

Best,
Anahí

They call them Air Passes. There were a few rules like you have to purchase with a travel agent, you have to fly in and out of SA on LATAM. There are many route options for the passes, and they are way cheaper than purchasing individual flights. Plus we got international luggage restrictions on all domestic flights, assigned seats, and a $50 change fee if we needed. We used air passes in Argentina to fly Santiago - to Buenos Aires, BA to Iguazu, BA to Salta, BA to Bariloche (Plus we used them in Chile). It was all super cheap. I wrote a lot about Argentina on my blog, but not so much about the air passes. Here's my latest: Quebrada de las Conchas: Best of Salta to Cafayate. After that use the search box.

I have to agree with #Fernando, Salvador is as safe as Rio and any feelings of insecurity are more imagined than reality. Blumenau is very nice and relaxed, Joinville is a city with a facade in the centre that could be mistaken for Bavaria but outside of that it's a really uninspiring city. Since you would be in Santa Catarina you could also visit Florianopolis. Angra dos Reis is definitely not worth visiting, neither is Buzios. The time of the year you are visiting is far from ideal, so maybe you should think outside the box and consider just Rio and ........Buenos Aires, Argentina

Hello
I'm after a bit of expert advice, I've always wanted to do South America and have decided to do a 3 week trip to celebrate my 40th Birthday in March. the trip starts the last week in March.
Currently I'm planning to fly into Buenos Aires and fly out of Lima, as I believe Machu Picchu is better in April.

Things I know I want to do:
Start in Buenos Aires - enjoy Tango & Steak (very typical) and then a couple of days of taking the city in - ideas welcome
Then I'd like to cover Iguassu Falls
then thinking of doing Santiago
Possibly Bolivia and the Salt Flats
I'd like to do a section of the Amazon probably closest to Bolivia
before finishing in Peru and doing Machu Picchu

I recognise I may be doing too much, so any advice greatly appreciated.
I'm after tips on itinerary's and things not to miss.
Also any tips on agents in South America that can help with organising any tours would be welcomed.

Thank you

There are a few airlines flying within Argentina. None will have the amount of destinations that Aerolineas have. Latam are reasonable too.

There is Fly Bondi - a low cost carrier in Argentina. Also Norwegian Argentina (an offshoot of the LCC Norwegian carrier). There is also Jetsmart another LCC in Argentina and South America. There is also Austral and Avianca.

Be aware of some of the LCC as they may fly from different airports from the others. Such as El Palomar in Buenos Aires.

There are options. I would utilise google flights or momondo/skyscanner for getting the best flights.
