What a pain: is the only real purpose of those regulations to scare US citizens out of traveling to Cuba, then?

An excellent and accurate summation!

Tourism and spending money as a tourist in Cuba is illegal for Americans , if you want to get technical and legal about it.

For the owners of Avianca to transfer their company to the US in order to stop flights to Cuba, that would be pretty convoluted. Why not just stop ?

I'm planning on a trip to Philippines for 3 weeks at the end of the year. I have a few questions regarding my itinerary:

1) How limited is transportation on Christmas Day and New Year's Day?
2) So far, I have on my list Coron, El Nido, Malapascua, Bolhol, Moalboal, and Boracay. It seems rather busy for 3 weeks.. If I need to skip one of the above, which one would you suggest? I'm in my mid-40s, avid scuba-diver but don't have the budget to dive more than a few times on this trip, love hiking but can't do long strenuous treks anymore due to a knee injury, LOVE a beautiful beach too but can only lie on it for a day before I get bored, LOL! Too old to party, hehe. Interested in local culture but not into "culture shows for tourists", if you know what I mean.

Please advise! Thank you!

The forecast in all of Central America, says rain. Its the tropics, odds of showers are always a present issue, coold off a hot day...

Its rainy season May to Nov, and its the best time to visit, as everything is lush, in bloom and prices much lower, and usually the crowds..

Are you there to Scuba Dive?

I know in Costa Rica they have a Green Alert this week, been very heavy rains due to a tropical low in the region. Keep in mind weather varies greatly between coast, caribe and pacific, elevation, and country...

I hear that if you did manage to get to Cuba without a tourist card, they charge more there than Delta charge.

You maybe able to leave Cuba by steamship, but the availability is extremely limited and definitely not the easiest way to travel from Cuba onward.
