Hi! Just looking for a bit of travel advice.

My boyfriend and I will be travelling round these 4 countries over 2 months. So far we are starting in Hanoi and heading down to HCMC via Halong Bay, Hoi An/Hue/Da Nang.

Then onto Cambodia doing Siem Reap/Battambang/Kampot/Phnom Penh.

Next to Laos (Vientiane/Luang Prabang/Huay Xai).

Then onto Northern Thailand for Chiang Mai (spending a week or so exploring National Parks from there).

Then flying down to Phuket to spend the last week down south before flying home.

Has anyone else done similar routes and can suggest places we've missed that shouldn't be missed? Or anywhere that isn't worth adding in? Or does anyone have advice on how realistic this is with 2 months? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, many thanks!

There's an obvious loop that you can do: Luang Prabang to Huai Xai by boat, and then make the trip back by bus, stopping off in Luang Namtha and/or Oudomxai (and possible exploring away from the main route as well). There's absolutely no need for an uncomfortable overnight bus trip!

Thank you for all of your helpfull response everyone. It gave me a lot of good ideas!
Its very difficult to decide for the last destination. Phong nga also seems very nice. Maybe Mai Chau / Pu luong is too much a like Sapa. Difficult choice

I did not use the public boat from Nong Khiaw to Muang Ngoi, only know that in both directions this boat only goes once day. But maybe you can find on the internet or ask in a forum.

Also don't know the times of the bus from Nong Khiaw to Luang Prabang, may search for it or start a thread. At least I would count a few hours extra if catching a flight after arrival.

Hi
It will be my first time in Laos.
I will be spending 8 nights during the last week of 2019 crossing over to 2020.

I was actually planning to bike from the old town which I will be based in at Luang Prabang to Luang Namtha.
Based on my search, its about 7 hours bike ride on route 13 before joining route 3 reaching Luang Namtha.

As it is my first time in Laos and my first time biking for more than 1 hour, I am seeking advise to what I should be aware of and if this is something I should do.

Is this safe and doable?

Thank you so much for your kind inputs.

Also please feel free to let me know if there is something worth checking out as well during that time.

Excellent pictures. I rode the bus up and down route 13 from Luang Prabang to Vietiene a couple of years ago. A wonderful trip.Didn’t care to too much for Vang Viene.

Ok, thanks to everyone who replied. We think we're getting closer to an itinerary and I'm hoping people can comment now on my suggestions. So we'd like to do slower travel meaning take our time. Let us know if this is still quite ambitious. We have about 3 months.

Thailand:
Arrive in Bangkok head down (bus?) to Ko Pha Ngan and Koh Lipe to hang out in the islands for a bit.
Then fly up to Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai for a weekish.

Myanmar:
They fly to Mandalay and explore Myanmar for a couple of weeks.

Laos:
Fly, bus or train (?) to Gibbon Experience
Bus to Luang Nam-tha, Luang Prabang, Nong Khiaw

Vietnam:
Bus to Vieng Xai, Pathet Lao caves, Mai Chau, Dien Bien Phu, Sapa, Hanoi Halong Bay.
Bus or train (?) to Hue, Hoi An, Nha Trang, Mui Ne, Ho Chi Minh City, Mekong Delta to....

Cambodia:
Boat to Chau Doc and
boat to Phnom Penh
Boat to Battambang
Bus to Ankor Wat/Siem Reap

Then off to the Philippines....

This is a bit of a round about trip, but we miss out on a lot of the stuff in the middle of Laos and Cambodia. Again, I ask, is this too ambitious for 3 months? We are sorting through the visa's right now so if you see any issues with what I'm proposing for that as well please let me know. We do want to see the beauty of these places, slow down and be near the water when we can.

Also, is it possible to go in and out of the countries? For example: Thailand is a 30 day Visa not Required. If we go out of Thailand within 30 days, could we come back again and get another Visa for 30 days?

Thanks. Is there any way I can find out more about transport options from DBP to Mai Chau area, and then on to Haiphong?

Also considering whether I should include trekking from Luang Namtha as part of my Laos itinerary. Given the time constraints, this would obviously mean flying from LP to Hanoi and missing out the Muang Khua-DBP-Mai Chau section. Any views regarding advantages and disadvantages?
