Some place we can fly into from Chaing Mai?

You can fly direct to both Krabi and Trang. The beach at Ao Nang, near Krabi Airport and Krabi town, where most budget-minded people stay is not very good, nor is the ambience. But, a short boat ride away is gorgeous Railay Beach. The problem there is that most budget accommodation is not on the really wonderful beaches where the accommodation is expensive. Krabi town is interesting for a day of exploring, but since your time is tight, I'd head straight down to Koh Lanta. After a few days there, getting a boat to Koh Muk is easy and quick. Then head to Trang for your flight back to Bangkok.

You can also fly direct from Chiang Mai to Koh Samui. When I last checked only Bangkok Airways was flying that route and they are always overpriced. I much prefer the Andaman Coast islands over Samui anyway.

Hey everyone, my friends and I are going on a graduation trip to SE Asia, with the cities/countries
Singapore
Malaysia{Kuala Lumpur}
Vietnam{Hanoi}
Laos{Vientiane,Luang Prabang}
Thailand {Chiang Mai,Bangkok,PhiPhi,Phuket}

We have about 5 weeks and want to spend the most time in Thailand, (approx. 2-2.5weeks), We start in Singapore and end in Phuket. With that being said I do know 5 weeks means we will be rushing a lot of things, but in hopes that we can get overnight trains we believe we can make the best of our trip.

Does anyone have any tips on getting from city to city and attractions we should see in each of the cities. I have Thailand pretty much planned out already as I've wanted to go since I was in elementary school.

Thanks!

What you should do is Saigon (with one day beautiful organized excursion Cao Dai Temple of Tay Ninh + tCu Chi Tunnels), then the Mekong Delta Saigon-Cai Be-Ferry to An Binh Island (1 night in the excellent Phuong Nam Homestay in the vilalge of An Binh (+ if you wish, one day bicycle and boating in the island), then ferry An Bin-Vinh Long and bus VL-Can Tho (1 night), then Cai Rang Floating Market in the morning and bus CT-Rach Gia (1 night), then speed boat RG-Phu Quoc, return to Saigon by plane.

This said, beach PQ + beach Muine is a lot of beach. You should consider going by bus to beautiful Dalat, spend 3 days there (lots to visit !), then return to Saigon by bus or plane

What's wrong with lots of beaches? Many people, especially westerners from cold Europe travel halfway around the world just to spend time on the beach. Mui Ne isn't just a beach though, it has sand dunes like no others you'll find in SE Asia so it's quite unique in that sense. Whereas Phu Quoc is mainly just beaches with a little bit of jungle and waterfalls in the central part of the island. However, it's beaches are longer and sandier and with fewer rocks than say Thailand's Ko Chang, so I would recommend Phu Quoc over Ko Chang for that reason. Also, it has an airport located on the island making it easier to access. I am not aware of any flights to Phu Quoc from Singapore, but there are lots of domestic connections from Saigon.

My fiance and I are planning out honeymoon is Southeast Asia. Thanks to some amazing recommendations from friends, family and you all, I think we landed on our locations. Our main activity guiding the trip is FOOD so we did a ton of research on locations known for amazing street food and cuisine in general. We also wanted a portion of the trip to be more of a beach style relaxation so we picked Bali for that. What do you all think? We are planning on flying between each location with nonstop flights except for the flight from Penang to Bali which has one stop.

The main thing i'm curious about is duration in each place. We could tack on or remove a day if it means a more enjoyable experience. Although we do want to see some sights and take pictures, it's not a deal breaker if we don't see every major sight in a location. We want to eat great food, see the main sights, and have enough flexibility to do some unplanned things.

5 Days Chiang Mai, Thailand
3 Days Bangkok, Thailand
4 Days Penang, Malaysia
5 Days Bali, Indonesia
3 Days Singapore

Hi there! Our family of four is taking six months away from the frozen wasteland that is our home to see the world. We have two kids who will be 9 and 11 when we go. We are travelling between Nov and April. I’m looking for suggestions for fun, active, and affordable activities in each of the following places. My boys are busy guys, so sitting around is a no-go. We are not interested
in water slides, zoos, or overly kid-friendly activities - just stuff that will keep them busy, learning and interested (I.e. informative hikes, nature hikes, swimming, animal observation, etc. ). Finally, I am vegan, so if anyone knows of cool vegan places to check out anywhere listed below, please let me know!

Mid-Nov: Mexico - 1 week in Monterrey and 1 week in Mexico City (small day trip ideas appreciated. We will be busy mostly with friends there)
Dec: 2 weeks in Ecuador working on a farm and a Galapagos cruise (any cruises that are particularly
Child-friendly appreciated. If we only do a 1 week cruise, does anyone have any ideas for other fun things to do in Ecuador with kids?)
Jan: 1 week Peru (Machu Picchu and surrounding area. Any tips and/or cool places or events to visit while we are in the area appreciated)
1 week Cambodia (Angkor Wat - we will likely stay less than a week. We plan to stay at a place with a pool since it’ll be a scorcher)
2 weeks northern Borneo (including Pom Pom island for 1 week. Any suggestions for the other week in northern Borneo that are must-sees or do’s?)
Feb: 1 month in Thailand (Chiang Mai and Rai for cooking classes and hiking, ... other ideas? We don’t want to ride elephants but are open to visiting elephants that are treated well. Any island suggestions that have great activities for kids?)
OR
1 month in Bali (Ubud and the Gili Islands will probably be where we hang out)
March: 3 weeks in Portugal ( we need ideas!! Help!! Any other farms or language exchange programs that anyone can recommend?)
April: 2 weeks in Greece (Crete is all we currently have planned. We need more ideas here, too! Our eldest is extremely interested in Greek Gods. We want to show him lots but not break the bank.)

I realize this is a tall order. Any suggestions for portions of our trip would be appreciated. We love immersing ourselves in local culture and don’t mind going to far off the beaten path as long as we are being safe. :) We are also open to dropping whole sections of the trip (after Peru) for better suggestions!

Muchas gracias!

Our family (2 adults and 2 kids aged 10 and 9) will fly from Siem Reap to Luang Prabang in early January. As we are travelling with kids we are limiting moving around and focusing on 2 places i.e. Luang Prabang and Vang Vieng. We need to fly into Luang Prabang and also fly out of Luang Prabang.

We were thinking of around 10 nights for the two places (incl travel time)?.Based on previous advice we will spend more time in Luang Prabang. Would 5 nights be about right? In terms of Vang Vieng, is 4 nights ok or too long? [Other option is we can leave Vang Vieng out if you think it is not worth the trip there and back?]

Some activities we can see that would fit the bill so far incl:
- Rice farm experience (where is this exactly?)
- Boat rides on Mekong;
- Visiting caves;
- Tubing around Van Vieng;
- Zipwire over Tad Sae waterfall
- Elephant/animal rescue centres (which one?);
- bike riding and walking around small towns.

Also, do you recommend family friendly hotels (mid range budget..with pool would be great?) and other places to visit. Thanks.

If you don't have asthma, you should be fine. I found air pollution in November in Chiang Mai not so good for me but I was okay. I also dealt with rain. I would still take the chance and go in Feb. At my age, I can't see more than a mile anyway. I also found air travel is more expensive in Feb but not by much.

Thanks, we do not have Asthma and are generally healthy and young(ish) so i think Feb might be the ticket especially if November could be a gamble anyway!

Flights are a bit more but it is manageable.

Thanks everyone, this has been very illuminating.
