I have researched and just cant decide what areas to cover, i like scuba diving, white beaches and exploring remote islands like you get in Asia.

Central America doesn't have anything like the profusion of white sand beaches and great diving/snorkeling places you can find in SE Asia. For that you're limited to a few areas, like the Belize cayes, the Honduras Bay islands, and also the Corn islands off the coast of Nicaragua. Also a few places in Panama like Bocas del Toro.

Central America does work better as a place for hiking trips and volcano summits, and the surfing beaches on the Pacific coast are much more numerous than good snorkeling/diving places on the Carib coast.

And 2.5 weeks is not much time. You could spend the whole time in Guatemala, doing highland treks there with quetzaltrekkers. Or you could go to Nicaragua, fly to Corn islands, and then split the rest of your time between Leon and Granada/Masaya, and also Ometepe island. There are tons of volcanoes to be explored between all those Nicaragua areas.

Did somebody say: -Eres camajan! Hmmm ...

Here is a very good description of what "camajan" stood for. I say stood, since I have not heard it in a while. You know, Cuba changes, and so does it´s street language.

This a about a different "camajan".

Most of the non availability of cars online is because many of the reps in Cuba have been booking cars in their own name for months....a much better rate. So, it appears there are no cars available if you book through an agency. Show up in Cuba and there are cars available for a slightly higher price than published. The agents are pocketing the difference. Another scam that has become widespread in Cuba.

Not my speculation. I know people in that industry.

Colombia also has some great cities.

Yes,Havana is certainly one of the most interesting I've been to in the Americas.A couple of other decent cities in Cuba too.

The guide has a few Caribbean cities, but really few...San Juan in Puerto Rico,Havana,Bridgetown Barbados,Santo Domingo...

But Cuba has changed , the most obvious signs are how people dress and that there are more cars in almost every city in Cuba.and there are many other obvious changes , material and otherwise.

In other words, Sandy, I think your "moments of near despair" re Cuba are no more justified than the Yank's conviction that present-day Cuba is much better than what he calls "the rather ugly reality" of Cuba circa 2001. While there are aspects of Cuban society that might support either view, I also have a notion that both views could be modified by "looking out upon" a broader segment of Cuban society.

My husband's comment about Cuba after several extensive cycling trips there between 1998-2001 was that "Cuban has the lowest ratio of a-holes to decent human beings of any country I have ever visited." He hasn't been back since but I have, and find this still to be the case. In my personal experience.

Maybe people feel they missed the boat by not visiting Cuba while El Caballo and his brother were calling the shots.

As they are wont to say on the TA Cuba forum, "Is it Friday"?

The sign NO HAY HELADO is taken down from the Coppelia.

Only in Cuba could an ice cream parlor ever run out of ice cream.

I had a Salad and a Sundae.

That is a lot of ice cream. Maybe it was a blessing if the scoops were hollow.
