Very good points rosa. We've never used AirBnB in over 20 month-long trips to Cuba. Why funnel well earned cash to a 'piggyback'[' jinetero ' -LOL!] U.S. company?! To Rosa's excellent analysis of Cuba's rental platform, permit me to add that the casa particular owners have a vested interest in recommending and booking a forward rental because they get a residual fee for doing so . Moreover, the casa owners often reciprocate in recommendations, a win-win situation.

Info on this topic is updated well enough. Just be patient and take your time studying the many and often wise posts on this.
As for"goverment-run donation centers tend to re-sell items", you are mis-informed.
Orphanages in Cuba???
The best to bring is, to come well informed and openminded. Spanish knowledge next.
Yesterday I spoke with our local boutique baker and his wife who had planned a cruise to Cuba in September. They jumped on the opportunity to get a 100% refund on their cruise and just had scored $325 air tickets to Munich for a replacement vacation. They said they saved so much on their airfare vs. what they had paid for their Cuban cruise that they could afford a week in Europe instead of the pittance they were going to spend in Cuba.
That is a shame. But hopefully there will be another couple who do go to Cuba by air and so make up for your neighbour and 20 others.
A major expense will be the airfare, so you need to look into that, as it could 3 times as much as to fly to one area of the world and another.
Next would be time of year, there are rainy seasons/monsoon seasons to consider, and this would impact your outdoor activity.
Then there is budget, how much money do you have for this trip?
Central America is 7 countries not including MX, so you need to pick and choose which ones. It may be cheapest to fly into Cancun MX, and head down the Yucatan via Tulum to Belize and Guatemala borders over 3-4 days.
Guatemala is the cultural gem, most would spend 3 weeks there.
The best place for nature, wildlife and bio diversity would be Costa Rica, most would spend 2 weeks there. Lots of National Parks. But Costa Rica can cost 50% more than Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras or Nicaragua.
Belize is not cheap either.
July is one of the rainiest months in Central America.
Do you scuba dive, or want to get PADI certified, as all the regions you have listed, has GREAT scuba diving. For Central America, the best place for this would be Honduras Bay islands Roatan/Utila. $300 for the course and includes dorm lodging.
Do you want to surf and enjoy great surf towns and surf culture? El Salvador, Nicaragua and the mecca for surfing is Costa Rica.
You need to read up on these countries and regions, as your question is too general and not enough interest.
Hi, hoping for some advice. This is my tried and trusted cash card for travelling. I don't use it for anything else and preload it before I set off. Its been literally round the world with me without any problems, except in some atms in Cuba. The reason I use it is because I can preload it. There are no charges for using it abroad and the exchange rates are comparable. However, I'm hearing that as its a mastercard ther might be problems in the above countries and it might not be accepted at atms. Can anyone please advice? I don't just travel with one card but this is the one that gives the best rate overall.
Thanks

Hello,
I was wondering if anybody could help me! I am looking at places me and my boyfriend could travel in late June and July this year. We are currently in Australia on a WHV and mid June is when his contract ends, we are wanting to do a bit more travel before heading home (England).
By the time he finishes his job we should have saved around $(AUD)15000, maybe more this is just a benchmark. My boyfriend wants to save around 1/3 of this for when we get home - not sure whether this will happen or not though! Our money to travel will come from this money as well as flights from Australia, to wherever and then home.
We were looking at New Zealand, but it's pretty expensive so we might save it for when we have more money. Therefore, we were looking into Southeast Asia but I've found out these months are rainy seasons. We're currently considering travelling a bit more of Australia, Bali or flying to another city in Europe and heading home from there. We're really open to any ideas though! I personally do not know a lot about Southeast Asia, I'm concerned about safety and what sorts of activities there are to do in certain places.
We are interested in nature, walking and swimming. I love open water and snorkelling and my boyfriend really enjoyed scuba diving on the great barrier reef. So that's a bit about us! During our travels we have done parts of Europe (Scandinavia, Germany, Austria and northern Italy) as well as parts of Australia (Cairns-Brisbane).
I look forward to hearing any recommendations!
