2 nights in Hue
2 nights in Phong Nha
2 nights in Ninh Binh (Tam Coc)
You can add one more place like Dalat city or add those nights to Danang (Hoian) with beach time.
OR keep doing with your original one!

Glad to hear the request for a tip wasn’t too relentless. Our experience was a little more annoying. Our rower started talking about a tip about 30 mins before we were finished. And she was relentless... on and on and on... she kept showing us a 10 euro note to demonstrate how much she expected. But hopefully she was a bit of an exception and other rowers don’t follow her example.

Go to Chau Doc in The Delta there are a couple of riverfront hotels. Ask at their travel desk if they can arrange what you want. It would be safe enough but you will certainly be roughing it!

Hello,
I've been reading a bit on the forum and have come up with a plan for a 8-9 day trip.
We like walking around cities, history, food and culture (nature where possible, but not tough hikes etc). We currently live in Phnom Penh, so are used to Southeast Asia weather etc.

The itinerary has become quite rushed, so I'd welcome suggestions of what to cut off. Note that the flights into HCMC and out of Hanoi cannot be changed. My sense is that HCMC/ Saigon is the best to reduce some time, but would welcome your views

Cheers,

1- 1350 Arr at HCMC
2 - HCMC
3 - morning flight to Danang, taxi to Hoi An
4 - Hoi An
5 - Taxi daytrip to Hue, night-train to Hanoi
6 - 1230 Arr in Hanoi
7 - To Halong Bay, overnight on boat
8 - Back to Hanoi
9 - 0925 Flight Hanoi to PP

Not a lot, tbh. At the end she just said "tip?". We gave her 20 VND (so 20% of the boat ride - but most definitely not a lot) and she seemed happy and smiled. But we come from a developing country as well, so we have a pretty high tolerance for informality in the tourism industry.

Glad you enjoyed the experience. Just curious how much pressure you got from your boat rower for a tip?
