Hey, I’m a bit of an over thinker and planning my SEA trip can get overwhelming at times; as I’m going for 6ish months planning my travel and itinerary is starting to be a challenge. Do I need to know what I’m doing roughly on a day-to-day basis or should I just have a general idea of sights and activities in the locations I intent on visiting? As planning day-to-day for a 6 month trip seems too much, idk. Thanks in advance, Joe

Hi, we are travelling from Hungary in May with an old Merc horsebox. Our destination is India. It may be difficult to nurse this old vehicle through this incredible journey but we have faith in the old engine. However, our faith does not stretch to doing a return journey. So, we have decided that we will keep the truck on my mate’s land in India. With this in mind, I started to research the journey with regards to countries on route that require a carnet de passage. From what I can tell, it is only Iran and Pakistan. Well, I’ve managed to find a company that can get you through Iran by taking a fee, then guaranteeing your transit through Iran to the authorities. So far, I can’t find anything similar for Pakistan but we suspect that it may be possible to flash a bit of cash at the border and if necessary, every time we are stopped in the country. I appreciate that on paper this may sound a bit of a cavalier and risky strategy but does anyone have any experience of doing anything similar or any insight into whether or not this will be perhaps doable?
We’d appreciate constructive answers please, lectures on how naive we are being or what a hair brained idea this is are not insightful. We already know this is probably the case but we really want to try to make this happen. Any help appreciated, thanks, regards Sean of the Irresponsible Triumvirate.

I am a bit confused by the geography of Capetown. We are thinking of staying five nights. Somewhere where it is easy to park. We will have rental car. What is best section to stay in if we are interested in walking around and being by restaurants? Is it easy to drive in Cape Town?

It’s been more than a decade since I visited Lago Llanganuco and Cañon del Pato from Huaraz, so the next time I wanted to go a little bit further in.

How long does it generally take from the nearest large towns to Laguna Carhuacocha in the Cordillera Huayhuash, and around Alpayamyo in Cordillera Blanca?

Not interested in climbing the mountains, just some nice views.

If I remember correctly, this branch originally had a description like "Travel to places where people don't look like you", and was intended to ask Qs like "I am of African ancestry and plan to travel to China. Will people stare at me?".

I guess it was not attracting enough traffic and see it has now the description "For all the conversations that don't fit in anywhere else on Thorn Tree.".
It now seems to be a miscellanous chat branch.

But isn't that what General Chat is for?
Surely any conversation fits there?
Why have two such branches?

Hello!

I'm taking my mom to Germany for a road trip to see some of the castles, do some hiking in the black forest, enjoy some of the lovely Bavarian towns and of course try the famous black forest cake! We picked out a lot of stuff to do and I initially tried linking them all together in one trip, but seeing it listed out, it admittedly seems like we probably have crammed in a bit too much. Maybe a bit too much driving as well. We would have 12 days, roughly at the end of May into early June. Here is my rough itinerary:

12 Days

Day 1 - Arrive/Drive to Bacharach/Relax in Bacharach
Day 2 - Burg Eltz/Meersburg/Stay in Bacharach
Day 3 - Drive to Weinheim>Heidelburg>Baden-Baden/Relax in Baden-Baden
Day 4 - Schwarzwald National Park/Baden-Baden
Day 5 - Drive to Zavelstein>Tubingen>Hohenzollern (or Lichtenstein)/Stay in Tubingen
Day 6 - Drive to Triberg>Freiberg/Stay in Freiberg
Day 7 - Lake Titisee (maybe Valley of Hell and/or Ravenna Gorge)/Stay in Freiberg
Day 8 - Drive to Meersburg Castle>Fussen/Stay in Fussen
Day 9 - Neuschwanstein Castle/Fussen
Day 10 - Drive to Munich/Relax in Munich
Day 11 - Munich
Day 12 - Depart

I think the first few days and the last few days are pretty solid. The middle of the trip is where I could probably use the most help. It's hard to tell where the best places to hike in the black forest are. It seems like cutting Tubingen would be an easy way to slow things down, but it seems like a shame to miss Hohenzollern/Lichtenstein. So, my questions are:

1 - Would you cut anything from this trip? If so, where/why?
2 - Is there anyway I could make this more efficient or relaxing?
3 - Is there anything I'm missing on the list that should be included?
4 - Any other changes I should make to generally improve the trip?

Thank you so much for any advice!

I need information about dash cams law in Canada, especially for tourists. Are we allowed to use dash cams? I would appreciate response from anyone with first hand experience. I read on a blog about the dash cam laws in the U.S but can't find useful info for Canada.
