Does anyone know what a Blackburn Alloy MTN 1 rear carrier weighs. I am only going to be carrying a base weight of about 6kgs on the rear carrier so I don't think I'll need a hefty Tubus carrier, despite the fact I'll be on some very bad roads.

I know everyone say's go for steel, but most long distance tourers seem to carry tonnes of junk around with them.

I brought a falcon explorer last year,and i am thinking of going touring around Europe on it,camping gear ect,the bike seems ok 18 gears,light,well made ect,i am just worried about the wheels being not able to manage under the weight of the pannier bags as they are thinner than mountain bike wheels and are made of alloy,has anybody else used thinner wheels under weight,any pros or cons most welcome,thanks

There appears to be only motorway/autobahn between Svilengrad in Bulgaria and Edirna on the Turkish side. Can bikes use this road or must they make a detour into Greece and back into Turkey or do cyclists use the railway to overcome the problem if it exists. There is no ordinary road on my map.

My bike frame is a bit chipped and I would like to repaint it. I have tried this in the past by sanding it back with coarse and then finer and finer sheets of wet and dry sandpaper, then spraying it with enamel paint. But no matter how many coats of paint I use, it always seems to chip off fairly easily.

How do the manufacturers paint frames in the factory?

How can I do a reasonable job of painting a frame at home?

And if I have an aluminium frame does it need painting, or can you leave it…
