On Your Bike

I am a fairly experienced traveller with a bike - but recently I came upon a problem when trying to fly with easyjet, and they refused me travelling because I dod not have an 'official' bike bag/box.

I am going to be flying again in the next fortnight - but because I am touring do not want to take a proper bike bag/box, nor ideally a cardboard bicycle box I can destroy on arrival - I want to be able to cycle to the airport for starters!

I'm not sure wether to take my bike with me when I travel to India from March to July so i'm here basically to look for a little inspiration from other cyclists who have cycled around the same time of year. Can anybody give me an idea of how the weather is going to be and what might be a nice route to take? My friend and I are going to be doing a biking trip from Vancouver, Canada to Wendover, Utah this summer. We are heading down to watch a friend race on the Boniville salt flats in August. We will be heading acroos Southern BC to near Rossland and then heaading down through Washington through Spokane and into Idhao through Boisie and Twin Falls and into Nevada for a bit before ending in Wendover and the salt flats. Hey. Do you carry some form of defence with you an your travels? I don't want a weapon! But something like a really LOUD alarm or pepper spray or similar. I'm not aiming to hurt anyone it's just if i need to get out of a situation! Any experiences or advice?

Can anyone recommend any good sites for buying parts and clothes online? I live on the West Coast of the US, and I'm trying to find good prices, even for used things.
