Has anyone cycled that region (Rainier, Mt Baker, North Cascades)

Would cycling from Portland to Vancouver (BC) be possible mostly on quiet roads? Are there lots of state parks with cheap camping and villages to pick up food along the way?

I was planning to bike Van to San Fran, but think doing a loop might be more manageable distance-wise, have more diversity and, most hopefully, make me avoid the heaviest traffic.

Suggestions?

Hi,

My name's Tom and I cycled around the world. Since I've got back I have written a book and set up a website (www.tombrucecycling.com) which has some advice and tips for people wanting to do a similar trip. I've put my route, photos and some pages of planning advice on my website.

My route took me from my front door in Cheshire, through France, Switzerland and Germany, to the Danube River, which I followed across Europe to the Black Sea. I cycled through Bulgaria, Turkey, Georgia and…

This topic has got to have been covered before, but I swear I tried the search function and didn't get anything relevant... Anyway, lady cyclists, what do you wear when you're touring? I live in the tropics and I'm going to be biking the Pamir highway this summer, so I'm not convinced that my usual style of clothing is going to work (both for climate and cultural reasons). Any tips??

hi,

I'm planning to cycle the Kinnaur/Spiti route next week, starting from Shimla, but David Cook reported on 14 Jun the road beyond Kalpa was damaged by massive landslides (see his post here, [http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/page/?o=1&page_id=330234&v=2A] ).

Anybody has any latest update on that road status?? is it passable now?
if the road is still blocked, is there any bypass that I can take without back track all the way back to Kumarsain/Narkanda continue north on route 11?
I notice…

I will be leaving Vancouver around July 25th and will have four weeks to make it to San Francisco.

I really haven't planned this at all yet, but heard it's a great route.

Are there any roads or little detours, idyllic camp sites and swim spots, funky villages, that are recommended? Is it easy to find informal spots to camp on the beach along the way?

Can I expect enough rain to justify packing my clunky fenders?

With only four weeks, will I have to rush a lot of the time?

Is there a direct bus, or do we have to change at the boarder?
Which route will it take, how much is it?
And: will it carry our bicycles?

(explanation: we traveled this road last year, and dont want to do it a 2nd time (although Anzob pass would be worth it...)
Hope this time Pamir HWY is open!!!

So put me on a highway, show me a sign, take it to the limit, one more time (The Eagles)

I am departing Alberta Canada on my bike and am looking for a biking partner.I am heading south with an end destination of Florida, from there all other plans are tentaitve and flexible. I would like to travel 500km a week, camping the majority of the way with some couchsurfing mixed in. I am not opposed to catching rides for some of the journey, as I realize there is a decent chance the beggining of the route might see snow and bad weather.

If you are able to meet up for all or part of the…
